That day I placed the camera at some distance from the bike, to avoid getting it wet, but I noticed that the photo was very distracting. So I had to move it a little closer and use some focal length to eliminate some elements in the background. All in all, I think the camera was at a shorter distance than I wanted, but that's where I left it.

I positioned myself in a place where the sunlight was hitting it directly, so I could use a fast speed and close the aperture a bit to get more things in focus. That's how I started shooting.

It was a bit exhausting because with that sun exposure I had to go back and forth from setting and shooting the camera to grabbing the hose and directing the water to where I wanted it. Another difficulty was figuring out in the frame where I wanted the water to be, and then running back to grab the hose while the camera timer was counting down, and aiming the water to the right place. Still, I kept myself motivated, thinking about what the result would look like. It was fun too, since these are opportunities to exploit creativity, test myself and understand the whole process, from start to finish. So I can say that everything shown in the photos was created and executed by me.

I think also the advantage of having this kind of work is that when we work with assistants we are sometimes tempted to be too demanding or ask for things that we have never done ourselves, and even think it's easy. But by doing everything ourselves we can realize that even things that seemingly are not so complicated do have some difficulty. Understanding these aspects I also think will make us better teachers, more patient and prepare us for future executions and even optimize them.

I knew I would take them to black and white since I think water looks interesting in the air when we see it in monochrome. Its silhouette and outline can be more distinguishable in black and white.

I loved the editing process, as they do indeed become more beautiful when taken to black and white. The light background was very flattering to contrast with the rubbers and water in the air.

This has been an interesting photo shoot. It has helped me polish creative skills, some physical activity and even my bike was shiny. The downside is that if any neighbors saw me, they would doubt I was sane doing all that and going back and forth. I can live with that. See you next time!
