One of my favorite people in the world(my little sister) is going through adolescence and we’ve never had our peace of mind at home. She’s always complaining about one pimple to another. She’s the only person I’ve seen who counts the number of pimples she has at night before going to bed. It might sound funny but it’s a serious thing at home. There are days she wants nothing to do with mirrors because she feels she’s not pretty meanwhile she’s the prettiest girl I know.
I knew I had to do something about those days and find a way to let her know how pretty she is every time. I thought so long about this and then got her a cute mirror in one of her favorite colours. I told her to check the mirror to see the most prettiest girl in the world whenever she felt she wasn’t pretty. For days, she never touched the mirror and kept on complaining so I knew I had to act quick. I decided to decorate the mirror with a flower garland so she would always feel like going to the mirror and that would remind her of how pretty she is.
Knowing that she loves colourful flowers, that was the exact theme I gave to the garland. It took about an hour to make the flowers and the leaves with the garland base and then it took about 15 minutes to bring everything together.
The materials I used were:
• leftover crochet yarn
• 1.60mm crochet hook
• super glue
Procedure
I started by making the flowers. The funny part was that right when she saw me making the flowers she joined me but I didn’t tell her what I was using them for.
I made the flowers by making 4 chains and then slip stitched in the first chain to make a hole.
I then made the petals by starting with a slip stitch and then made 2 chains, 3 treble double crochet and then 2 chains and a slip stitch. This made it look like a dome. I repeated this 5 times and that was how I made the petals.
For the base of the garland where I would attach the petals, I made a long chain which could go around the mirror. After making about 15 chains, I paused to insert a tiny leaf. For the leaf, I made 4 chains and then a double crochet in the second stitch. I then made a picot by making 2 chains and then slip stitching in the first chain. I went ahead to make 2 more double crochet in the same space and then slip stitched in the first chain. I repeated this about 5 times till I was done.
I attached the flowers to the the base of the garland. After the flower garland was done, I used super glue in very little quantities to glue the garland into to the sides of the mirror.
I finished it off with a long chain which was used to hang the mirror.
The result
It was so fun making this because she kept on asking me what I was using the flowers for and I kept on beating about the bush. Even when I finished and was assembling everything, I made sure to send her so many times so she wouldn’t really see what I was doing. It was later she came back and realized it was mirror decor and then I screamed “surprise!!!”. She was so happy and just like I predicted she’s been admiring herself since I gave her the mirror. Mission accomplished!
Thank you so much for your time.
