I’m so excited as I’m typing this right now because of how serious the youth is finally taking the things of web3. We had a bootcamp today in Kumasi at the Valley View University and I must say I was so impressed. From the attendance to the engagement and participation.
The speakers began by explaining the decentralization on hive and I think that sparked the students’ interest because they are used to other platforms controlling their data, content and accounts. So hearing that there was a place where your account, data or content was yours alone and nobody could ever control it made them more curious.
Another thing that I realized caught people’s attention was the reward system on hive. Most of these people spend so many hours scrolling through other social media platforms. Others said they were even content creators. Upon hearing that hive rewards quality content, they got another reason to be happy about the blockchain.
Before we began the main session, I had people coming to me ask me how much they had to invest in hive to make money and that was when I realized we had a long way to go. And according to them, they had similar experiences with other platforms where they got scammed. The speakers made sure to thoroughly explain the hive ecosystem to them and they got to know all they needed to know.
The highlight of the bootcamp for me was when people started creating hive accounts. One of the ladies I was helping to create an account had to choose username about three times because the first and second already existed, and the reaction I got from her was so funny. She thought hive was just a “thing” for Ghanaians so finding out it was a worldwide platform and she could network with people all over the world made her so happy.
This session was more practical with just a few people as compared to the previous conference we did last year. I couldn’t count the number of people present because I was busy helping people with account creation but I know we probably had about 100 people at the bootcamp. Of course I’ll share with you all a video to see what went on but I just wanted to give you all an update.
People asked so many questions and at a point I was shocked at the kind of questions which were coming. Not because they were bad but they sounded like they were coming from a place of “I really want to know more”. While the session was ongoing, we had people signing up and at a point, there was traffic on the page so others had to wait. And they actually waited till the end of the camp and then signed up before leaving. That alone made me surprised.
My favorite thing about these hive conferences is that, there’s always something new to learn and it’s always good to see my fellow hiveGhanaians, @mcsamm and @awuahbenjamin.
