This contest takes me back to the good old days when I was very little. Then, my dad got me a small phone which I used to play soccer with my siblings. It was either soccer or snake xzenxia game but soccer was always my go to game.
My love for soccer continued to grow and most especially the time when one of my uncles came to visit for two weeks and every evening, he takes us to the football watching centre to watch soccer. Then, I realized I was a huge fan of soccer and I can stand anywhere to talk about it because I know a lot about it.
For this week’s #kiss, I feel the best movie that explains our prompt is Shaolin soccer. Shaolin soccer is a Hong Kong sports comedy which was released in 2001. It was directed by Stephen Chow and starring actors like Stephen Chow, Ng Man-tat, Tin Kai-man and other actors from China. All of these actors were able to manage the roles they were given very well.
This movie wasn’t just about the game or fun part. It reflects on people’s longlive dreams becoming a reality. It centres around the power of money and how money ruined the career and the entire dream of a person.
Movie synopsis
Fung, one of the biggest Hong Kong soccer stars takes a cheque from his teammate Hung to lose his next match. He did so but some angry spectators beat him up and also breaks his leg.
After twenty years, Fung, who now walks with a limp asks Hung, his previous teammate and now a successful businessman to coach his team but Hung laughs hysterically and reveals to Fung that breaking his leg was all his planned work.
Fung feels bad and sits on the streets when he met a Shaolin Kung Fu master, Sing. Eventually, Fung discovers that Sing will be a very good soccer player. They started gaining more people who were interested to be coached by Fung especially the Kung Fu brothers of Sing. Their team was known as Team Evil.
Team Shaolin wins more matches and even the popular team known for vicious cheating. Team Evil enters a cup competition in Hong Kong. Fung’s Team Evil was filled with people who took a particular American drug for them to play better. Eventually, they were playing against Hung’s Team Shaolin.
Finally, their secrets were revealed that Fung’s Team Evil uses Amrican drugs and they all got banned from the Hong Kong soccer while Hung got inprisoned for doping. Sing’s Kung Fu dreams finally became true when he saw people use Kung Fu in their everday lives.
My opinion
I think Sing was not patient enough. Since he knows that he wants to take Kung Fu to the next level, he could have continued trying instead of wasting years under Hung’s soccer team all for him to get banned.
Lest I forget, I enjoyed the Hong Kong open cup competition. I liked the way Team Evil won and even made Team Shaolin feel inferior but at the end, I felt bad that they were under the influence of an American drug.
Fung is just a desperate being starting from the time when he collected a bribe from Hung and when his soccer players took drugs. He must have done worse if he got away with it.
I learnt that patience is a virtue. Sing could have waited more while Fung could have also waited kore and kept working hard instead of collecting a bribe.
I rate this movie an amazing 8/10 because it is worth it.
