Starting this movie, I didn’t have high expectations for it because it’s a young girl’s movie and I never thought it could be interesting. Eventually, my doubt was put to test and I was proved wrong about the movie.
My Old Ass is a sophomore comedy movie which was directed by Megan Park and starred the likes of Maisy Stella, Aubrey Plaza, Maria Dizzia, Percy Hynes White and Alexandria Riveria. This movie was also written by the Director, Megan Park.

The movie opens in a scene where Maisy Stella who played the character of Elliott drives a little boat with her friends Ro and Ruthie while her family members waits at home so they could surprise her for her eighteenth birthday. Elliott decided to stop at a coffee shop where Chelsea, her ex boyfriend works. Ro and Ruthie waited outside for her and she told Chelsea that she will be going to college. Eventually, they have sex.
Whilst Elliott’s family were home waiting to surprise her, she had other plans with her friends. These three friends set up the a tent and brewed the mushroom tea which Ro took along with her. Elliott was not feeling the trip while her two other friends trip out happily and immediately she tells them that, an older lady comes right beside Elliott and says her name is also Elliott and reveals that she is her older self. Now, we have the younger and older Elliott.

Older Elliott raises up her dress and shows younger Elliot a wound on her rib cage. She reveals that she is thirty nine years old and the future of the younger Elliot. Younger Elliott was surprised to see what her future looks like and she begs older Elliott for some life changing advices.
The only thing Older Elliott tells younger Elliot is that she should stay away from any boy called Chad and she should spend a good time with her family. They both sleep under the tent and Older Elliott exchanges digits with younger Elliott. Younger Elliott saves the number as My Old Ass. Elliott’s affair with Chelsea continues to go well and on the next day, Elliott worked so hard and took herself on skinny dipping when she saw a young guy swimming on the other side. He was too handsome that Elliott could not take her eyes off him. The two meet and exchanged name. Elliott realized that the guy’s name is Chad and ran for her dear life after she remembers that older Elliott tells her to runaway from anyone named Chad.
Elliott got attracted to Chad and tells her older self. She tells older Elliott that she founds Chad harmless and attractive but older Elliott has refused to say what the problem with Chad is.

Older Elliott disappears for four days but younger Elliott is surprised that Max invites Chad to come with them golfing.
Eventually, Elliott flee and freaked out after a conversation with Chad and they kissed. She tried to reach her older self all day but older Elliott was not reachable.
Days are running by and younger Elliott gets prepared for school. She reunites with her mum and bonds with family while she introduces Ro and Ruthie to Chad. They all went on her last boat ride.
Elliott and Chad becomes close that they discuss about so many things. It was revealed that Chad is already a student of the college Elliott is going to. They talked and talked until they had sex.

Chad walks home Elliott and boom, older Elliott appears. She reveals to younger Elliott that Chad will die and there will be no one to save him. She doesn’t want younger Elliott to go through the pain she went through, says goodbye to her younger self and leaves forever.
What do you think later happens between Chad and Elliott. The movie ends leaving us in a suspense making us think if Chad will eventually die as older Elliott had said or not.

My review and rating

I’d love to start from the protagonist of the movie, Maisy Stella. She did a very amazing job acting that role. She acted like an eighteen year old human and didn’t gag. She acts not trying to get too much attention from the audiences or tries to take the shine of her co-actors. She acted well.

As for Megan Park, the Director. She did a very amazing job as well. I love how she made the movie end leaving all the audiences on a suspense. Who knows what will eventually happen between Chad and Elliott. She directed the movie in a way that will give us further thinking or thought about the movie.

The characters were well built and the scenes were good. There were no irrelevant talks even though there are things to add to the dialogue. The good thing about the characters is that they connect well to the roles. They look their age. There are so many castings that goes wrong. Some people may look older than the age they claim in the movie while some may look younger. It as for this movie, it looks good and perfect.
The casting is a very brilliant one.

If I’m to rate this movie, I will give it a 8/10. I will surely recommend this movie to people who love teenage movies and not just general movie lovers.

In a nutshell, I enjoyed the movie.
