The other day I posted about my first berry hunting walk of the year. The berries were starting to ripen in city, so I took my bike early in the morning to see if I could get some berries in the forest route I go biking every summer. It has been a hot day, but early in the morning it was still cool and the breeze was simply comfortable. It was so refreshing to ride along the road without cars and feel the breeze.
The route I take for berry hunting is the one along the river north of the city, which goes through a large park. As I drove my bike through the empty park field in the early morning, I thought about what heaven would be like. Once I pass under this bridge, the berry bushes begin.
As there are a lot of other plants growing, the ripening of the berries seems to be a bit slower than the those in the city, with uneven ripening depending on the amount of sunlight.
While pushing my bicycle along the path, I found ripe berries and picked them. I put a container in a shallow bag I made for cycling and hang it from the handle. It's practical.
It seems that it will take a little more time for the Elderberries, which I was looking for this time. Maybe they will be ready next week or the week after. I have made syrup from Elderberry flowers before, but I learned from a blog post that it is delicious to make jam from Elderberry berries, and I want to try it.
During the berry hunt, I met only a few group people, including grandpas and grandmas, and a family pushing a stroller. We exchanged greetings saying “Morgen” (casual "good morning" in German) and “Hallo” to each other. It was so nice.
I'd like to enjoy the short German summer cycling, finding a cool day and cool time of day.
先日、今年初めて子供とベリーをとりに散歩に出かけたことを投稿しました。街中でベリーが熟れはじめ、毎年夏にサイクリングに行く林でもベリーをとれるかもと早朝に自転車に乗って出かけました。暑い日が続いていますが、早朝はまだ涼しくて、風が気持ちいいこと！車がいない道を風を感じながらどんどん進んでいく爽快感がたまりません。
私がベリーハントにいくコースは、街の北にある川沿いのコースで、大きな公園の中を通って入ります。早朝の誰もいない公園の原っぱを抜けながら、天国があったらこんなところだろうなと考えていました。この橋の下を抜けるとベリーの茂みが始まります。
植物が生い茂っているので、街中の茂みと比べてベリーの熟れ具合には日当たりによってムラがあり、やや遅いようです。
自転車は押しながら、熟れたベリーをみつけて摘んでいきました。こんな感じで自転車に乗る時用の浅いバッグにタッパーを入れてハンドルからぶら下げています。
ベリーハントの最中に出会ったのは地元のおじいちゃん、ベビーカーを押している家族などほんの数組の人だけでした。すれ違う人たちとは「おはよう」「おはよう」とあいさつを交わしていきます。
以前、京都で銀閣寺の近くに住んでいたときに、家から数分の大文字山に登ると、近所のお年寄りと同じように「おはよう」「おはよう」とあいさつを交わしながら登ったのが懐かしいです。
今回お目当てだったニワトコの実はまだもう少し時間がかかるようです。来週、再来週くらいかな？ニワトコの花でシロップは作ったことがあるのですが、noteでニワトコの実でジャムを作るとおいしいと知り、試してみたいのです。
涼しい日、涼しい時間帯を見計って、短いドイツの夏のサイクリングを楽しみたいです。
