It was a fun experience for me to see these adorable fish up close. I captured them with my phone camera. How come? I'll tell you how it was done.
There are many species of mudskipper, and this one is the slender mudskipper (Periophthalmus gracilis), whose habitat occurs in the mangrove ecosystem. The mudskippers spend more time out of the water; they actively jump and walk on the mud with their fins during low tide.
I noticed some mudskippers lazing around. They seemed bored, waiting for the tide to recede. Some were lying on reeds, wood, or anything floating on the edge of the mangrove river. Surely, they couldn't wait to play in the mud.
As the tide is high, that's the best moment to take photos. They are reluctant to move even if you shout at them.
The slender mudskipper has bulging eyes like those of frogs. Those eyes are beautiful and green. Its body has black, white, and blue spots.
They remind me of a seal; it seems that mudskippers behave similarly to seals. Yeah, that's lazy behavior! :D
