She was running desperately, the thick fog obstructing her vision. Suddenly, she hit a solid wall, blood pouring from her nose. But it wasn't a wall, it was Him... the shadowy entity who had come to claim her soul.
-It is your time, I am the entity that guides souls to the spiritual plane... and it is your turn to die,” his icy voice penetrated her bones as he pressed her neck against the wall.
She pleaded for her life, begging for one last chance. To her surprise, the entity agreed, on one grisly condition:
-Demonstrate that someone really appreciates you and that your existence makes a difference. Only then will I release you.
Smiling in relief, she picked up her cell phone and sent desperate messages to her contacts: “Am I important to you?”. One by one, the answers came back.... a stony silence.
Close friends blocked her. Family members ignored her pleas. No one responded that her life had any value.
The chill of despair flooded her being as she realized... she was truly alone in the world. No connection, no purpose. An insignificant existence.
Defeated, she looked up at the entity, tears of desolation streaming down her face. He smiled cruelly, a grimace that chilled the soul.
-It seems no one appreciates you enough to keep you in this world,” his laughter echoed like thunder. Your chance is gone... time to come with me.
Huge spectral claws swooped down on her, tearing at her flesh. As her life ebbed away, the last thing she saw was the maw of the underworld opening wide, ready to devour her discarded soul into eternal darkness.
