Saturday Savers 2025 Progress Report - Week 1 - Setting Goals For The Year

Hey, we made it to 2025 ! That means I need to do a special #SaturdaySavers update by setting my goals for the year. Here goes....

Goal Setting For 2025 - Basic Principles

There are a few basic principles I've been thinking of as I set my goals for the year. They're based on a combination of how I expect 2025 to look and lessons learned from last year.

The principles are;

  1. I don't expect to have much (or even any) fiat to put into crypto investments this year. Business conditions are tough, so I doubt I'll be able to give myself a pay rise, and I need to rebuild my ready reserve savings after spending far more than I expected on a replacement car.
  2. I need to be laser-focused on HP gain.
  3. Tribe tokens are nice, but need to take a back seat, even those projects I really like.
  4. I need to take some of the pressure off myself around posting and curation, to ensure Hive is a pleasant hobby, not a chore or full-time job. It's a mindstate thing, I know I'm less productive if I think of something as a chore.

The Actual Goals

Hive Power

Last year's goal was to gain 3500HP. I did it, but only because I bought 1800 HP and powered them up on HPUD. I won't be able to do that this year.

But I'm learning how to optimise earnings, and I've become more consistent with posting. Combined with compounding effects, I reckon I can just about earn 55 HP a week in rewards. So (55 x 52) plus (10 x 12) for HPUD power ups brings me to 2980.

There's been some discussion about setting a threshold for a prize draw of 3500, so I'm going to be ambitious and see if I can do that without putting too much fiat in. It means that somehow I have to hit an average earnings of 67HP a week. Ambitious - let's see how I do !

HBD

My HBD goal is based on an estimate of 5 HBD post earnings a week, plus 30 HBD monthly interest. My current interest is a bit under this, but should average out at 30 by the end of the year.

I've assumed I won't be able to find the fiat to buy any HBD during the year, but if I do or if the HBD interest rate changes I'll adjust the goal to take the changes into account.

Tribe Tokens

As mentioned, I'm reducing focus on tribe tokens so that I can put my energy into growing my HP.

For EDSI's and LEO, the goal is based on what last year's weekly earnings looked like, so admittedly fairly unambitious, it's more a case of just tracking progress.

For BBHO, I've based it on hitting the 100 BBHO threshold for BPUD on the 20th of each month. It's affordable enough right now that I should be able to cover that by converting other tribe tokens.

Posts and Comments

I've set a goal for posts that's basically one a day, but reduced by 21 over the year to allow for holidays, sick days and other times where real life just gets in the way.

For comments, the target is simply 30 a week. which is a slight increase over last year but should be do-able.

Other Metrics

The other metrics are really just there so I can keep an eye on them rather than having serious goals.

I've pasted the spreadsheet in below. It should be noted that the start point is the end point of last year's spreadsheet. I've done that just so I'm working with complete weeks rather than having a few "orphan" days one way or the other. I expect it to take a week or two for the figures to settle down and the % of goal achieved to start making sense.

One thing I have added onto the spreadsheet is a column which shows me the average I need to earn each remaining week of the year to hit each target. With any luck those will stay consistent, but I started calculating this unofficially last year and found it incredibly helpful.

If you're not familiar with SaturdaySavers, it's a fabulous initiative run by @shanibeer writing as @sally-saver on the @eddie-earner account, where we all support each other in getting to our savings goals.

If you are one of my friends reading this (or just someone who tripped over one of my posts), I really recommend this as a great community that's well worth joining.

I'm normally very disorganised about saving, and the support of the wonderful people in #SaturdaySavers has been invaluable in keeping me focused. I can honestly say that without it, my HP would probably be half what it is now.

So join ! You don't have to wait until the start of the year. The best time to start saving is ten years ago. The second best time is right now !
