Annie and Ellis were my high school mates and from the very day I saw their chemistry, I knew they were a match made in heaven.
It all started one day when Ellis came to school very late and had to be disciplined for that.
Mr Timi the teacher on duty brought his behavior modifier (a.k.a as disciplinary rod) to lash Ellis.
Annie was standing right beside me as an assistant punctuality prefect and the next I saw was tears rolling down her eyes.
In amazement I asked.. "What's wrong Annie, why are you crying?" She kept mute and focused her gaze on Ellis.
Being a girl with a high emotional intelligence, I understood what was wrong.
"Don't tell me you're crying because of Ellis.. " My hands were at akimbo and in defense she responded. "I'm not crying because of him oo,"
"Then why are you crying?" Mr Timi snapped back at her.
"It's personal." Her response was abrupt as she wiped her eyes off leaving just I and other prefects at the school gate.
Mr Timi held back from lashing Ellis that morning but gave him another punishment. He was asked to pick the trash on the school premises before heading to the classroom.
At 8:15am , class commenced but the two people missing were Ellis and Annie.
"Where is Annie and Ellis?" Mrs Hoose, our Biology teacher asked in curiosity. Before she could send one of us to go look for them, Dora the busy body of the class had gone out to look for them. She found Annie assisting Ellis in picking up the trash. "Ma, Annie is downstairs with her man," Dora said sarcastically and the class teared up in laughter.
"Something that will not last, it's just part of adolescence," Mrs. Hoose reacted and demanded she joined the class immediately. "Leave love and focus on your study, there's actually time for everything." She faced the class and resumed her morning advice session as that was part of her rituals while we all waited for Annie and Ellis to join the class.
"Drums roll.. Give it up for the best couple in town," Dora the naughtiest girl exclaimed as Annie and Ellis walked into the classroom.
After the class, the lovebird became the topic of the day. Annie and Ellis admitted that they both had a thing for each other and that they've made plans to attend the same university after high school.
They kept to their promise and eventually tied the knot after university as I was part of the few people they invited to their wedding.
It was such a beautiful moment to see my classmates staying in love after so many years. It wasn't just about puberty as Mrs Hoose had claimed but it was as though they were made for each other.
When they had their couple dance, they held each other and looked into each other's eyes with so much excitement. Their dream finally came true and when the Master of ceremony asked the groom to kiss his bride, he made it a show for everyone to see. "I love you endlessly" Was written all over their faces and it was a memorable ceremony.
Their love story didn't end there as they began to choke the singles with their love story even on the media.
A year later they had a baby together and she looked so much like her father and after the next year, they hardly shared their love story online.
At first, I thought parenting was tough on them and they needed to focus on their new responsibility. But that wasn't the case, the perfect match made in heaven finally went their seperate ways after three years of being together and it was really sad.
The school group went crazy when they heard about it. One could never believe that these two could ever live without each other but we had no idea about what wrong behind the scene or closed doors.
Trying to please the onlookers would have been detrimental to their mental health, I guess that's why they chose to end everything. Mrs. Hoose might have been right in a way, well that an issue I have no control over but all that mattered was, their love story was beautiful while it lasted.
