Hello, good morning everyone. This is my first suggestion of 2025. I hope you are having a wonderful new year. I have not had a pause in my taste for TV, but I am anchored in several series at the same time. This time I want to recommend a series that is giving much to talk about, and whose reviews are very varied, it is natural. It is the adaptation of the famous work of the Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez, One Hundred Years of Solitude, the same one that gave its author the Nobel Prize for literature in 1982.
Let's talk a little about the creation of the series.
The series is produced by Gabriel García Márquez's own sons, Gonzalo and Rodrigo Márquez, and was filmed in Colombia especially for the Netflix platform. In a recent writing I read that their father said that after his death they could do with the work whatever they wanted. For my part, I think that bringing it to the screen was a great success, because breaking down the book is quite tedious for students, and although in the series many things are omitted, it is also true that there are many coincidences.

In fact, both the book and the series begin by mentioning how Colonel Aureliano Buendía, standing in front of the firing squad, thought about the day he had arrived in Macondo with his father. Therefore, some criticisms are superfluous, since the characters, the most important scenes, and the Buendía family's trajectory are completely reflected in each episode. It consists of 8 chapters, each between 59 to 68 minutes long.
What is the series about?
The story of Macondo and the Buendia family, takes place among beliefs of witchcraft, spells, curses, and other superstitions that were changing the behavior of its protagonists until they became beings full of prejudices, sins, and some with serious mental imbalances.
There are several opinions about the main theme of the story, some think it is incest as a serious family situation that has deteriorated the morals of society and religion, others say that the main theme is the preservation of family customs and beliefs over the generations, and others insist that the central theme of the plot is the inner loneliness that was consuming the soul of each family member over a century.
Image captured from my Netflix subscriptionI think they all have their level of importance, and that is why the story becomes more and more interesting, but unlike the reading, in the series we become physically familiar with each generation of the Buendia, and we do not get lost so quickly in the genealogical thread.
The creation of Macondo begins when José Arcadio Buendía, after traveling through the jungle for several months, wakes up one morning on the banks of a river, and decides to found the town there. He and his wife, Úrsula Iguarán, decided to leave their town because they felt haunted by the ghost of Prudencio Aguilar, a man whom José Arcadio had murdered.
On the other hand, José Arcadio Buendía and Úrsula Iguarán, lived in fear of the omens about their offspring, since they were cousins and yet they married. His mother and the other superstitious ladies of the town insisted that their children would be born with pig tails. Thus began the history of the Buendía family in the town of Macondo, and all the generations that were formed over the course of a century.

Hola, buenos días a todos. Ésta es mi primera sugerencia del 2025. Espero que estén pasando un hermoso año nuevo. No he tenido en pausa mi gusto por la tv, sino que estoy anclada en varias series a la vez. En esta oportunidad les quiero recomendar una serie que está dando mucho de qué hablar, y cuyas críticas son muy variadas, es natural. Se trata de la adaptación de la famosa obra del escritor colombiano Gabriel García Márquez, Cien años de soledad, la misma que le otorgó a su autor el premio nobel de la literatura en el año 1982.
Hablemos un poco de la creación de la serie.
La serie está producida por los hijos del propio Gabriel García Márquez, Gonzalo y Rodrigo Márquez, y fue grabada en Colombia especialmente para la plataforma Netflix. En un escrito reciente pude leer, que su padre afirmó que después de su muerte podían hacer con la obra lo que ellos desearan. Por mi parte pienso, que llevarla a la pantalla fue un gran acierto, porque desglosar el libro es bastante tedioso para los estudiantes, y aunque en la serie se obvian muchas cosas, también es cierto que hay bastantes coincidencias.

En efecto, tanto el libro como la serie, inician mencionando como el coronel Aureliano Buendía, estando parado frente al paredón de fusilamiento, pensaba en el día que había llegado a Macondo con su padre. Por eso algunas críticas son superfluas, ya que tanto los personajes, las escenas más importantes, y la trayectoria de la familia Buendía, se reflejan por completo en cada episodio. Consta de 8 capítulos, cada uno entre 59 a 68 minutos de duración.
De qué trata la serie
La historia de Macondo y la familia Buendía, transcurre entre creencias de brujerías, hechizos, maldiciones, y otras supersticiones que fueron cambiando el comportamiento de sus protagonistas hasta convertirlos en seres llenos de prejuicios, pecados, y algunos con serios desequilibrios mentales.
Hay varias opiniones acerca del tema principal de la historia, algunos piensan que es el incesto como grave situación familiar que ha deteriorado la moral ante la sociedad y la religión, otros aseguran que el tema principal es la preservación de las costumbres y creencias familiares a lo largo de las generaciones, y otros insisten en que el tema central de la trama, es la soledad interior que fue consumiendo el alma de cada miembro de la familia a lo largo de un siglo.
Yo pienso que todos tienen su nivel de importancia, y es por eso que la historia se va haciendo cada vez más interesante, pero a diferencia de la lectura, en la serie nos vamos familiarizando físicamente con cada generación de los Buendía, y no nos perdemos tan rápidamente en el hilo genealógico.
