Cagayan de Oro City is commonly known as "The City of Golden Friendship." Yes, we Cagayanon's are so friendly and hospitable. I think every Filipino is hospitable, but when I was a kid, I knew that our city is also called the City of Golden Friendship, and I knew it because I am also such a very friendly person as a resident of this city.
I would like to introduce to Worldmappin the most visited place here in our province, "The Cagayan de Oro City Hall and the Gaston Park." The park is located beside the city hall, even though it is not Christmas season. This is really the most visited place, especially every Sunday after Catholic church.
I have so many memories from this park since my childhood.
The Cagayan de Oro City Hall was built in 1831; it was first called Casa de Real during Spanish time, and until now the building is still intact. I think they renovated some but not all, and I always visit the city and see the old parts of the building. Every day there are too many people visiting the city to process paper works and also to ask help from our respective and very generous City Mayor Klarex Uy.
Last month I went to the office of the city mayor because I asked for some help to buy medicine for my health maintenance, and I was granted that. That's why the Cagayan people love our mayor so much because of his good heart and generousity. Even his brother, the former vice city mayor before, was also a great person that I always asked to help me with my medicines.
Good thing now that our city mayor already provides medicines at the hospital, so after doctor consultation there will be free medicine and there is no need to go to the city mayor office to ask for help for medicine.
Beside the city hall, Gaston Park is located. It is the plaza of our city built in the year 1900, also during the Spanish colonial period. It has a fountain in the center of the park and is surrounded by trees and plants around.
When I was a child, it had Bermuda or scutch grass all over the ground, but due to the old decades that the Bermuda grass is drying, the local government removed a cement around the Gaston Park Plaza, but it looks beautiful and a nice place to visit to stroll around and take some pictures.
Gaston Park is the most visited by locals, especially the employees that have a working day off of Sunday expected every Sunday. There are too many people in the park, and the locals from the provinces prefer to visit the place because beside the park the St. Agustin Catholic Church is also located, so after church you can have time to stay in the park and relax for a while and beside the Gaston Park is the Cagayan De Oro.
During the Christmas season, there are more visitors because Gaston Park was upgraded with a dancing fountain with the colorful Christmas lights around that the tourists will love most. For sure, you would also want to take a lot of pictures around and post them into different social media accounts.
# Thank you so much for reading my posts today! I have so many things to share about my city and the other tourist spots and destinations, and I guess I will write more in my next post here, and thank you so much to @worldmappin because of this community I can be able to share the beauty and hospitality of our city.
