Friendship.

When it comes when you least expect it, then you know it is real. Therefore, accept the gift and cherish it.- Quote by Me.

With nobody to lean on, Rebecca went through life all alone. Her grandma's death was a huge shock for her.

...and it was just a few days to her birthday. ”Almost nine years after them. Accursed number.” Rebecca whispered briefly as she remembered the doctor's words.

”Mrs. Dawson died peacefully. I believe it was her time to go.” The doctor, Mr. Raymond had said.

Rebecca wanted to curse him but then thanked him. It was nice knowing her grandma didn't go through pain like her parents must have.

Looking around her room, Rebecca sighed before venturing toward the kitchen like she was on a mission. She wanted to see her grandma's smile or even hear her voice, but no matter how she tried to imagine her presence, Rebecca had failed woefully. It was like her imaginative side, and the voices in her head were no more, and it filled her mind with more loneliness.

Three days. That was all it took for Rebecca to mourn her loss and pull herself together. She had promised her grandma she'd be a great chef, and that needed to happen with a certificate and her skill upgraded.

Going back to school was refreshing for her, and the home became a scary place to be in. The first thing Rebecca did after resumption was to go to the school administrative office to enquire about her school fees for the next section. However, she got to know all her fees had been paid by her grandma until she graduated.

With that sorted out, Rebecca started looking for part-time jobs to do to earn money and also to stay off home a little bit.

After surfing through the internet for days, Shangmi Restaurant caught her attention. They needed a waitress, and Rebecca was up for the job.

Getting interviewed wasn't an easy feat as the restaurant was one of the biggest A+ rated restaurants in England and mostly explored by tourists.

After various interviews, the last day of interview was set with the C.E.O of the restaurant at his company which was based a few miles away from the restaurant and Rebecca got herself ready when she got the mail.

The moment she finished class, Rebecca headed to the company for her interview.

”How can I help you, ma'am?” The receptionist asked Rebecca.

”Oh, I am here for an interview with Mr. Ben.” Rebecca replied.

”Your name, please.” The lady enquired.

”Rebecca. Rebecca Craig.” Rebecca answered briefly.

Typing away on her keyboard, the lady looked at Rebecca before speaking.

”Take the elevator up to level 5.”

”Thank you.” Rebecca answered before heading towards the elevator.

The ping sound of the elevator led Rebecca to a door. Walking toward the door, she saw an opening that read the interview section. Walking straight there, she sat down.

The sound of the landline ringing caught Rebecca's attention, and for a moment, she was still as a glimpse of the memory from that night hit her nerves. Pulling herself together, she picked the call, and a voice came in.

”You can come in.” A manly voice said.

Walking toward the adjoining door, Rebecca was faced with the C.E.O of Shangmi Restaurant, Mr. Ben.

”You can have your seat.” He said.

Minutes passed by very fast as Rebecca spoke with Mr. Ben. The interview flowed smoothly. He asked about her next of Kin, and Rebecca had mentioned her grandma's name, and surprisingly, he knew her grandma.

”So, you are studying Culinary at Cambridge University, right?” Mr. Ben asked.

”Yes, I am. I am edging for a waitress job now, but I would like to work as a chef in this same establishment when I get certified.” Rebecca answered.

”That's fantastic. Your grandma was a renowned chef well known in England, and if she really put you through this path, you must be outstanding yourself. You can start with the waitress job, and we can talk later when you are ready to become a chef.” Mr. Ben said.

The salary structure was put into place, and Rebecca was asked to resume the next day.

”Thank you, Sir.” Rebecca said before leaving the office.

A week and a half later, Rebecca had familiarized herself with her new work. The restaurant, being a multi-cuisine restaurant, introduced Rebecca to other types of cuisines. With that, she decided to practice more with dishes while creating her recipe.

Instead of cooking and letting it go to waste, Rebecca sorted out charity homes close to her to share the food made there.

With this, Rebecca made it one of her priorities to always visit charity homes, which made her spend more time home, after work cooking and also tending to the plants and animals around.

Two weeks passed, and Rebecca became a well-known figure around the charity home close to her place.

”I see you are very popular around here.” a voice spoke, sending chills down Rebecca's spine.

Carefully turning her head, she was met with a familiar yet unfamiliar face.

”What are you?” Rebecca asked the stranger who strangely reminded her of someone from her past.
