As promised, I return with my usual art content ^^ It has bee some weeks since I got back to my drawing rhythm. I was pretty sure I forgot how to draw again because it's been 3 weeks that I've been deprived of drawing time and screen time. I tried really hard not to use my gadgets much while my man was around. And now that we're back to our old lives, I can fall back into my drawing rhythm slowly and naturally. Not to mention that I did have a few days to relearn the softwares I use XD
So this week's Splinterlands entry, I went with the Byzantine kitty again. I've been exploring a softer palette and style before my break and I think I want to get back to that, as well as explore some old styles of mine on the current software I'm working with (Gopaint on huawei).
So I thought I'd practice my pastel coloring with this soft-looking cat then I'd slowly fall back to the darker colors I'm used to. Then hopefully soon I can work on monochrome again. Oh but I will try to do traditional art in between still.
Duration: 2hrs 30 minutes (according to time-lapse counter)
Software: Gopaint on huawei
This was loosely based on the cute holy cat XD
My sister said it looks AI generated ;;-;; and I know that should be a good thing but I kind of worry about statements like that.
As for my progression:
So I had a really hard time working on this one because if I base it on the last time I made the holy cat on medibang, it's that pastels are a little challenging to work with because I can barely see where they blend and the blending usually comes off a little grayish because of how light the color load is, and that is annoying to me. But I started the background on colors that imitated the night sky then the sketch, a soft pink that would be the same color as my base color
Then when I've set up my base color, I went down the violet-blue gradient to build up that light shade. Oh how I wanted to reach black, but since this was a pastel attempt, I really tried not to let the colors get too dark else I'll have a hard time catching up to that shade then it would just go back to my usual art style XD and that defeats the whole point of exploring new styles and palettes.
And in the midst of the drawing... I ended up forgetting to take progression shots because I kept switching colors, I added the cyan highlights and I experimented a little with which shades of purple should go good for the details. This did take me a good hour or so just for the experimenting part. By the time I reached this point, I was at the 1hr 20 minutes, based on the time-lapse timer. And I am really happy gopaint has that time-lapse timer.
Then this was my last shot before I did the finishing details and highlights.
So that's all from me today ^^ Tomorrow I plan to do holozing stuff then a few other illustrations to make up for the weeks I haven't participated in anything XD
I want to make good use of all this inspiration and motivation my love left me before I get burnt out again. Plus I want to go on a hike so I'll probably need to save up for that too in the incoming weeks. But for now, wish me luck on my consistency journey XD I will see you guys soon!
