Sketchtember day 12: Plants

in #hive-1586948 days ago

I am on day 12 and the phobia we have for today is botanophobia. This is an irrational fear of plants and sometimes it reminds me of the hanahaki disease where you develop plants and flowers in your lungs due to one-sided love. And you either die coughing out flower or you confess your love and hope for the best.
Then again, there are plenty of reasons why one would fear plants in the first place. It could be because of allergies, of poison on plants, of bad experiences with plants, etc.
But then, it would also remind you of that scare tactic where they tell you that if you swallow seeds of the fruits you eat, you'll grow plants in your stomach. My concept is a little bit of both but mostly leaning to the hanahaki side because it is a very beautiful and poetic death.

Materials: Acrylic marker, rainbow pen, white pen
Duration: 2 hours

I am pretty torn with my opinion on this drawing of mine. I kind of like it but I also kind of feel like it's still lacking so much, I just have no idea what else to add because I was drawing this on the van to the river we'd be swimming in.

From my pen layering, I started with an orange base because I really liked the shade of this orange pen that came with the rainbow pen. I kind of used it to do initial details and markings as well then I layered it up with pink and yellow to give it a more fleshy color.

I was actually thinking hard about what to do with my background because I wanted her to be lying in a pool of her own blood, but I also kind of just wanted it to look natural and to have her hair down. And now that I think of it, I could have added hair strands along her face to give her a pretty deshiveled look. I should have done that because when I added my acrylic paint to it, there was very minimal details I could add since the paint kind of resisted my pen ink.

This was the acrylic layer I added. It kind of looked like murder at this point XD but like.. hanahaki is a brutal yet beautiful death so I think it kin of matched the theme of it all XD plus I loved how it looked so much like bloodsplatters and I have no idea if there's actually a flower like this, but I would like to cultivate one.

And that is how this piece was made XD I am sorry I'm not so excited right now, I'm on a van and cars really make me car sick... but at least I still got to finish this!!!

That's all from me for today! I'll try to draw something from the river and hope that I can actually finish a piece XD So wish me luck!
I will also try to maybe write about the river as well ^^

Day 12 done~~

Beautifully executed. The fear of plants is real indeed but the hanahaki disease? Never heard of that, I guess we learn everyday 🤷

well hanahaki was a japanese made manga. i forgot the manga name, i read it back in my high school days but it certainly stuck with me. it's such a poetic death 🥹🥹

Very poetic, it also makes sense cos one-sided love can be dangerous

ohh so i see I've interested you in the hanahaki thing too OwO
