Christmas as a seaaon would not be complete without the carols and Christmas songs that lighten up moods and make the hearts all sweet and yummy. I began listening to "Boney M" Christmas songs as a child and I can unashamedly say that I know a good number of them by heart now.
It was a natural custom to start playing Christmas songs right from the 15th day of December (don't ask me why😁). My dad would play the tape very early in the morning. I am talking about as early as 5am. I recall waking uo to Christmas songs floating all over the place as a child and I can say that this custom helped imbibe the Christmas spirit into all of us at home.
For me personally, I would say that my favourite Christmas song is Jingle bells. Maybe it's because I like the bells in the song or maybe it's because for many years, I did not get a hang of its lyrics and I simply chewed my lips whenever it got to the part of the song that I didn't know fully well.
I am sure that I am not the only one who chewed their lips to an unclear Christmas song. It happened a lot when I was a child. As far as the Christmas song...jingle bells go, I really did a lot of blunder while singing the verses but when it got to the chorus, my vocal maxim increased to gear two and I start screaming..
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh, hey
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh
When it got to verse two, the cycle of lip chewing begins again as I happily await the chorus and join in the fun. I stumbled upon this video on #Youtube and I found it so adorable. Listen and enjoy.
Lately, different musicians have taken it upon themselves to make a cover of some Christmas songs and even go as far as revamping the songs entirely. I think I should commend our Nigerian musicians as they have also tried to revamp some popular Christmas songs in the Nigerian style. Trust me it is fun to listen to and watch. I did some digging and found these videos on #Youtube. They are both african versions of jingle bells.
I find them quite amusing and entertaining, so enjoy.
Thank you for reading and listening.
This is my response to the #decemberinleoinitiative for day 26.
