Marriage is good and beautiful especially when two people with the right mindset and understanding go into it together. Where issues arise from is when one of the partners or probably two of them don't know why they are in marriage.
A lot of families are crumbling right now because of the harsh economic condition of the economy. Some fathers have abandoned their homes and run away because of the immense economic pressure.
Gone are the days when families breed children like chicks. I'm talking about a couple having fifteen children and even more. In times past, this was done to minimize cost of labour as the children born would be used for work on the farm.
Most men go into polygamy for this same reason. They would marry two or more wives and have many children. The good thing about this is that, there was enough resources to cater for the big family back then. There was minimal lack in the family plus many things were not as expensive as they are now.
My complain now is "Why are some couples still giving birth to children they cannot care for?"
A disturbing sight prompted this question which I want to #rant on. I saw a little girl hawking okras on the street on a hot afternoon. This girl should be around 4 to 6 years of age and she was looking very tired. I guessed that it was from a tiring day at school and without even having time to rest, she was asked to go hawk.
I'm not against the ways by which people earn their keep especially if it isn't illegal. I was not just pleased with that scene of a little girl hawking which I saw that afternoon. I understand that things are difficult but should that difficulty place a huge financial responsibility on a little child. That girl should have been sleeping, playing, resting or probably doing her homework and not walking from street to street selling wares.
Please intending couples out there, prepare for the kids you intend to have before you tie the knot. Don't pump out numerous kids and later subject them to difficulty at a tender age all because the economy is harsh. This can demoralise and scar such children for life.
Life is in stages. Just as how you don't give solid food to a new born child because you are aware that it could harm that child, so also we dont dump some kind of responsibility on young children. Doing so has the potential to harm that child.
In the case of this little girl that I encountered, she could be put in harms way from incoming vehicles on the road. She could even be in danger from paedophile rapist that lurk around and many more.
I really felt bad for the little girl and anger at her parents or guardian or whoever gave her those okras to hawk. I wanted to go meet them and give them an earful but that could not be as I was still at my work station. I can only vent here 😜.
