A Christmas in Malaga: among the most renowned light shows in Spain, after Madrid

Dear friends of Hive, today I will take you for a walk to a city in the south of Spain that was dressed in lights to welcome this Christmas.

Malaga was dressed in glitter, lights, colors. Malaga was bathed in a sweet gold full of warmth and tenderness long before the famous Christmas tree with its nativity scene was set up in the houses.

People in the city talked about the lights of Malaga, and I did not know what they meant until I saw them: the city had been bathed in gold. As the newspaper El Independiente says, Malaga is the second city that puts up the most Christmas lights.

Una Navidad en Málaga: entre los espectáculos de luces más reconocidos de España, después de Madrid

Queridos amigos de Hive, hoy me los llevaré a pasear a una ciudad del sur español que se vistió de luces para recibir a esta Navidad.

Málaga se vistió de brillo, de luces, de colores. Málaga quedó bañada en un dulce dorado repleto de calor y ternura mucho antes de que en las casas se montara el famoso árbol navideño con su pesebre.

La gente en la ciudad hablaba de las luces de Málaga, y yo no sabía bien a qué se referían hasta que las ví: la ciudad había quedado como bañada en oro. Como dice el periódico El Independiente, Málaga es la segunda ciudad que coloca más luces navideñas.

Larios Street, the most famous street in Malaga, offered an illuminated walkway full of angels that were arranged along the entire street, while their lights illuminated more than three or four meters away.

There was never a moment in which this street was desolate, because every person passing by stopped for at least a moment to contemplate, to photograph, to talk about that marvel.

I did not manage to take a single shot that reflected what my eyes saw, because the brightness of those thousands of lights are very difficult to capture by the camera, even by my new cell phone.

The main Alameda, perpendicular to Larios, was also dressed in gold. Lights were neatly distributed along the street, connecting and illuminating the grove. In addition, images of bells and stars were placed in the pedestrian area, inviting tourists and locals to approach those images to take pictures.

La calle Larios, la más famosa de Málaga, brindaba una pasarela iluminada repleta de ángeles que se disponían a lo largo de toda la calle, mientras sus luces alumbraban a más de tres o cuatro metros de distancia.

No hubo momento en que esta calle se encontrara desolada, pues cuanta persona pasaba por ahí se detenía como mínimo un momento a contemplar, a fotografiar, a conversar sobre aquella maravilla.

No logré hacer una sola toma que reflejara lo que mis ojos veían, pues el brillo de aquellos miles de focos son muy difíciles de captar por la cámara, incluso por la de mi nuevo móvil.

La Alameda principal, perpendicular a Larios, también se vistió de dorado. Luces se distribuían prolijamente a lo largo de la calle, conectando y alumbrando la arboleda. Además, se colocaron imágenes de campanas y estrellas en la zona peatonal, que invitaban a turistas y locales a acercarse a aquellas imágenes para tomarse fotografías.

There was more magic in Malaga at this Christmas time, than in any other place I remember, because the place is decorated as if it was cold, but the temperature is very pleasant at this date.

In Malaga, any corner of the city became the perfect place to illuminate, and even the lights arrived in a big way to shopping malls like Plaza Mayor, where even decorative bulls and cows were waiting for Christmas.

The walls also became spectacular screens to share shows for all ages, especially for the little ones. An example of this is the cathedral, where a short movie was shown at different times of the night.

Había más magia en Málaga en esta época navideña, que en cualquier otro lugar que yo recuerde, pues el lugar está adornado como si hiciera frío, pero la temperatura es muy agradable en esta fecha.

En Málaga, cualquier rincón de la ciudad se convirtió en el lugar perfecto para iluminar, e incluso las luces llegaron a lo grande a centros comerciales como Plaza Mayor, en donde hasta toros y vacas decorativos estaban a la espera de la Navidad.

Los muros, además, se convirtieron en pantallas espectaculares para compartir shows para todas las edades, en especial para los pequeños. Un ejemplo de esto, es la catedral, en donde se pasaba una corta película a diferentes horas de la noche.

Citizens and tourists wonder how much Malaga will invest each year to mount a tremendous light show everywhere, and according to eldiario.es, Malaga has invested 1.5 million euros to illuminate the city and in an attempt to surpass Vigo, in the north of the country. This same newspaper indicates that more than 2.7 million LED points have been lit throughout the city, but I do not know if it is only the center or nearby areas.

Ciudadanos y turistas se preguntan cuánto invertirá Málaga cada año para montar tremendo show de luces por todas partes, y es que según eldiario.es, Málaga ha invertido 1,5 millones de euros en iluminar la ciudad y en un intento de superar a Vigo, en el norte del país. Este mismo diario indica que se han encendido más de 2,7 millones de puntos LED en toda la ciudad, pero desconozco si se trata únicamente del centro o de zonas cercanas.

This is how this beautiful city delights its visitors and inhabitants with the splendorous Christmas lights that accompany them for almost 2 months.

Es así como esta bella ciudad deleita a sus visitantes y habitantes con las esplendorosas luces navideñas que acompañan durante casi 2 meses.
