Hello! This post is for the entry of Battle Mage Secrets weekly challenge. For this week, we have Odd Ones Out as the ruleset. For this post, we have a battle that has a Silver level cap with a defensive strategy using Water and Dragon element. Because I usually play Bronze Tournaments, I was not expecting me to win this battle.

Odd Ones Out

Only units with odd mana costs may be used.

  • Summoners are not affected by this rule.

There is not a lot of things to say in this ruleset, because it is really straightforward. You would want to use elements that have a lot of strong odd mana cost units.

Battle Info

Rank: Modern Silver
Avaliable Type: Fire, Water, Life, Death, Dragon
Mana: 42
Silenced Summoners: Summoners do not give any buffs/debuffs or grant/use abilities.
Reverse Speed: Units with lower speeds will attack before units with higher speeds. Attack Accuracy based on speed will also be reversed.
Odd Ones Out: Only units with odd mana costs may be used.

The ruleset was restricting cards and Summoners again. Odd Ones Out is just restricting half of the cards that I could use, and Silenced Summoners was not only making summoners was useless (apart from Dragon), but taking away around 4 mana for nothing. Reverse Speed also means that I should be going for low speed units. Also, the mana cost was just kind of high, so I could use some high mana units.

My Lineup

Summoner: Quix the Devious. For the Summoner, I picked Quix the Devious. The abilities are useless because of Silenced Summoners, but because it is a Dragon summoner, it could use Dragon and another element.

First position: Agor Longtail. For the Tank, I went with Agor Longtail. It costs 15 mana and has 13 health and 6 armor, while also having double attack and Void Armor, Flying and most importantly, Taunt ability. Although 15 out of 42 mana is really high, it is a really good card for tank.

Second position: Oshuur Constantia. Then, I went with a supporting unit that has Resurruct. At level 2, it would get Reflection Shield, but I didn't have it at that point, so I was hoping that they will not use Blast units.

Third position: Merdaali Guardian. After that, I just went with a supporting Tank Heal unit. Although it has no attack, it would be getting attacks from Weapons Training unit.

Fourth position: Daarg Deadblast. Although Daarg Deadblast has Swiftness ability, which is not good for our team in the Reverse Speed ruleset, but the Weapons Training ability is too good because I would be using supporting units without attack, so I used it.

Fifth position: Scavo Hireling. Another unit that is supporting the Tank. It has Repair ability which restores armor. It is good with Agor Longtail's Void Armor ability.

Last position: Angelic Mandarin. Lastly, I went for Angelic Mandarin. Although the Taunt ability makes Triage ability a bit useless, but I used it just in case they has Scattershot units.

Round 1

The enemy monsters were revealed and not really surprisingly, they went for a dual element summoner, which, like Dragon summoners, allow two elements. For the units, they went for a mix of strong Melee, Magic and Ranged units. They also had a Dispel unit which would be helpful for me (removing Swiftness that actually slows my monsters down because of Reverse speed).

Round 1 started and we both were exchanging blows. They had stronger units overall than me, and Venka the Vile was really strong (5 melee attack), and also my monsters were really slower than them. Because my team would fall without Agor Longtail, it didn't seem good for me.

Round 2

Round 2 started and I was really fortunate enough that their strong attackers missed some attacks targeting Agor Longtail because of Flying ability increasing 25% chance of missing attacks. Meanwhile, because my units were mostly Magic monsters and they had a Void unit on the front, it was really hard to take it down.

Round 3

Although Agor Longtail was strong, it was taken down by their strong units, but was resurrected by Oshuur Constantia. Grum Flameblade was taken down, and things were looking good for me.

Round 4

After exchanging some blows and my team taking down Radiated Brute, Agor Longtail was down to 2 health and no armor, yet it was lucky to dodge a hit from Soul Strangler. Venka was also taken down, followed by Spirit Hoarder and Soul Strangler.

Round 5

At this point, they only had one unit left, while I did not lose any. The game ended at Round 5.

Thoughts about this battle

This battle were really good for me, because RNG worked out for me which kept Agor Longtail alive from the first few rounds, when they had all their units alive and had more powerful units. In other words, I was really lucky to win this battle.
