Today I'm joining today to share with you a new feline discovery, because yesterday a kind of curiosity arose in me when I saw my little cat Dio, who has a big belly that moves here and there and by chance of life, I got an answer about it through an informative video. So I looked for more about it and sure enough, it exists and here I tell you all about it. I have used precisely my cat Dio as a model to illustrate in a better way what you will read here. Dio my biggest cat (who is about 2 years old), has always been quite huge; giant head, long in body and with a lot of body mass. But I was always curious (and very cute) about a little tummy he had on his belly. It was my favourite thing because that area is untouchable for them, but Dio has never been afraid to show it and he trusts us enough to cuddle and touch it. I assumed he had it because he was "chubby". Well, yesterday, watching some videos, I found out that this little belly is actually something called the "Primordial Bag". Let's say it's a sack where fat accumulates in case the cat needs it at a time when he doesn't have food within reach.

El día de hoy me uno por aquí para compartir con ustedes un nuevo descubrimiento felino, pues ayer surgió en mí una especie de curiosidad cuando veía a mi pequeño gato Dio, el cual tiene una barriga bastante grande que se mueve aquí para allá y por casualidad de la vida, obtuve una respuesta sobre esto a través de un video informativo. Así que busque más sobre ello y efectivamente, existe y aquí les cuento todo sobre ello. He utilizado precisamente a mi gato Dio cómo modelo para ilustrar de mejor forma lo que aquí leerán. Disfruten de estas imágenes (jajaja). Dicho eso comencemos entonces.
Dio mi gato más grande (que tiene unos 2 años de edad), siempre ha sido bastante enorme; cabeza gigante, largo de cuerpo y con mucha masa corporal. Pero siempre me pareció curios (y muy tierna) una barriguita que el tenía en su abdomen. Era mi cosa favorita porque esa zona para ellos es intocable, pero Dio nunca ha tenido miedo de mostrarla y nos tiene bastante confianza cómo para poder abrazarlo y tocarle. Suponía que la tenía porque era "gordito". Bueno, pues ayer viendo algunos vídeos, me entero que esa barriguita en realidad es algo llamado "bolsa primordial". Digamos que es un saco dónde se acumula grasa en caso de que el gato la necesite en algún momento dónde no tenga comida a su alcance.
This "primordial pouch" is a genetic inheritance from larger cat ancestors (tigers, lions, pumas, etc.), who have this pouch to be able to survive in a more hostile environment, such as living outdoors. It also provides an extra layer of skin that allows the cat to be more flexible, stretching without any problem. As another benefit of this bag is the fact that in case of a fight, the skin that covers the belly of the cat works as a barrier where it is difficult for an attack to be deep and end up hurting a vital organ of the cat. So this pouch ended up being something quite vital for felines.
Although it is an inheritance, not all cats have this pouch, as only some of them have it because it has been lost with the passing of time, generation after generation. I suppose this is because cats are domesticated animals and no longer have the need to groom themselves to survive, so it is "useless" to possess this kind of "resource". However, I guess you never know when you might need it and in the face of that: it is better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. Esta "bolsa primordial" es una herencia genética por parte de ascendencias felinas más grandes (tigres, leones, pumas, etc.), quienes tienen esta bolsa para poder sobrevivir en un ambiente más hostil, cómo lo es vivir en el exterior. Además también les proporciona un extra de piel que permite al gato poder ser más flexible, estirándose sin problema alguno. Cómo otro beneficio de esta bolsa esta el hecho de que en caso de una pelea, el pellejo que recubre el vientre del gato funciona cómo una barrera donde es difícil que un ataque sea profundo y termine hiriendo algún órgano vital del gato. Por lo que esta bolsita terminó siendo algo bastante vital para los felinos.
Aunque es una herencia no todos los gatos tienen esta bolsa, pues solo algunos de ellos lo poseen pues se ha ido perdiendo con el paso del tiempo, generación tras generación. Supongo que esto se deberá a que los gatos son animales domésticos y ya no tienen la necesidad de prepararse para sobrevivir, por lo que es "inútil" poseer este tipo de "recursos". Sin embargo, supongo que nunca se sabe cuándo se pueda necesitar y frente a ello: es mejor tenerlo y no necesitarlo, que necesitarlo y no tenerlo. Por cierto, para saber si es una bolsa primordial o barriga, tenemos dos opciones: tocar y observar. Si al tocar sentimos que es blanda y vacía, es bolsa primordial, pero si es dura y llena, es barriguita. También sirve la observación porque la primera se balancea, es floja y se deforma, en cambio la segunda, no se mueve tanto y mantiene su forma.
