Good morning everyone. Today's episode of Clean Planet was done in a health center.
I did a 24-hour shift and prioritized keeping everywhere clean before handing it over to the next shift. I would like to seize this opportunity to tell you about a hospital infection.
Nosocomial infection: also known as hospital-acquired infection. This is a process by which a healthy/sick individual contracts a certain type of disease from a visit to a particular place most especially hospitals and public places.
To avoid this kind of transmission hospital environment should be utmost clean. And ensure that the waste generated goes into bins that are meant for them.
Talking about the waste generated in the hospital, we have at least 4 major types of waste and means of disposal.
They are: infectious waste, hazardous wastes, domestic waste, and hazardous infectious wastes
BREAKDOWN:
This bin contains high-infection waste which includes blood, human body fluid, tissues, etc more reason I left it closed.
The bin with yellow nylon contains semi-infectious waste. They are infections but not compared to the Red Bin. They contain used cotton and gauze.
This bin contains domestic waste like nylon, pieces of paper, and other household waste generated as work was ongoing
Then we have the safety box👇
This box is both infectious and hazardous.
It contains used syringes and needles, used surgical blades, and some other sharp objects.
Conclusion:
I ensured they were all disposed of appropriately and in the right places pending when Lagos State medical waste management will come and carry them.
I ensured that the floor was mopped with clean water and antiseptic
I ensured that the Labor Ward was prepared and ready to accept new clients
