Night Teeth

May I say that this is the worst film to be talking about at this point in time, but what’s better than a little bloody movie (quite literally) to spice things up? I’d seen this film just about when it was released, but I was more or less forced to see it again recently, courtesy of a loved one. It’s a pleasure as always, to share the films I’ve seen, both good and bad with you all. Which is exactly what we’re going to do today.

Night Teeth (2021)

Directed by Adam Randall, Night Teeth tells the story of Benny (Jorge Lendeborg Jr.) who takes his brother's place as a freelance chauffeur. From there, he is hired by two friends to drive them to several nightclubs in Los Angeles. He is unaware that these women are vampires. He also doesn’t realize that his brother, Jay, plays a role in keeping the peace between vampires and humans.

Somewhere else is Victor (Alfie Allen). A vampire who has grown bored with feeding consensually from humans. He begins to execute his plan of wiping out other vampiric lords, so he can take power for himself and ruin the truce the vampires have with humans. A night that was supposed to be spent simply for Benny just take over his brother’s job for a while becomes one to remember. A life-altering experience for the rest of his life.

So, I’ll start by saying that movies are meant to entertain. The reason why most of us criticize the littlest bit about a movie these days is simply owing to the fact that our lives are hard. We’re looking for an escape or an outlet for our anger and frustrations. We see a movie, and nit-pick the heck out of it, starting with the title and then to the opening scenes, invariably taking out the very essence of films which is to entertain, however mindlessly.

That being said. This wasn’t the best vampire film I’ve seen. Starting from the smallest issue to the biggest. There’s a reason why vampires are usually centuries old. Their decisions should be backed by a lot of wisdom. So, when I see vampires acting immature, it kind of runs me off the wrong way. You should be the most stoic and level-headed being on the planet, courtesy of living so long and seeing pretty much everything. I know that’s how I’ll be. Sadly, this was not the case.

Also, the protagonist didn’t give me too much to work with when it comes to likeability. It’s usually such a bummer you know. When the core person in a film is not a likable character for you. It kind of ruins everything minutes in, especially when said protagonist adds salt to injury by making equally unlikeable decisions. Not good, Benny. Not good at all. But, that’s alright I guess for a movie that’s meant for you to just laugh at and be on your way. This film being described by Google as horror certainly cracked me up, that’s for sure.

The film, however, was fast-paced, which I enjoyed because I was eager to get through it quick. The action began almost immediately and didn’t stop till the end. That in itself would have proven rather satisfying if the events weren’t also predictable several miles away. I guess this will be a, “We watch, we don’t judge,” situation. But seeing this film the second time sparked a lot of emotions. Loved the experience, though. All 1 hour and 47 minutes of it. Hope you enjoy!
