Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to share a few photos of the fat old frogs my son and I were trying to catch!

Frogs are one of those things that little kids tend to love. They make noise, they swim, and they hop around. They are also elusive and I think that's what adds an element of mystique to them for the kiddos. My son has been trying to catch the buggers for years, but doesn't have a lot of success with it yet!

One of the farms we go to, I feel like I say that a lot... lol, has a little pond near the parking lot with some animals around it like some goats and a sheep but it's also got a hell of a lot of frogs in it and they are pretty damn gigantic!

We really went into getting them this year, because my son is bigger but we are also a little bit better equipped. We brought a net with us!

The big fellas are definitely evasive as hell, but one of the things that we realized, which we didn't before, is that they are aggressive as hell! haha. We ended up getting a really long stick and getting near them, tapping the water and they would get pissed and jump at it, thinking it was a competing frog or some type of bug or something they could eat. This worked really well!

We were able to successfully lure a couple of the fat fellas here over to where we were standing on the side of the pond to try and snatch them, but we weren't incredibly successful. The frogs, as aggressive as they are and may not be overly smart, are quick. We would bring a net nearby to try and grab them but they would jump away back into the water far quicker than we could get them. Damn! They got the best of us for a while.

We did manage to land one of the smaller ones which was fun, it was something! The little man got on one side of the dude, I got on the other and I coaxed it over to him and he snatched it with a net, and we were able to successfully land it. We held it for a few minutes, showed it to some of the other kids in the area and had some fun, but we ultimately let it go so that it could go back and keep on living and growing.

I know that some people do eat the frogs, but I don't know if I could do that. Things like frogs, unless in a dire situation, are not really worth it to me. You don't know what kinds of parasites and shit live in their bodies, so we stay away from them as food lol. We may end up catching and eating one just to say that we did it, but I'm not sure about that just yet. I am planning on going for a rabbit first, to make sure we can do that, before I go to anything different. I'm not sure if I would exactly be doing a frog, but who knows lol

It's great that you were able to take a picture of the frog.

Yeah, they were evasive!

When I was a kid we used to catch them for fun and let them go. I have ate frog legs before but never from the ones I have caught.

Haha yeah, I've caught a bunch. I remember hanging out behind my uncles barn and he had a small pond we used to catch them all the time! I've never eaten frogs legs though.

Cool photos of frogs. I actually caught a little tree frog yesterday and seen several different kinds on lotus plants while I was fishing.

That's awesome, we don't see tree frogs here I don't think, at least we haven't noticed them. I will see if we have any that are around here! We do find quite a few woodland toads which is cool.

Cool and interesting catch I like it thanks for sharing.

Yeah, frogs are cool and quick!

I think I ate what we use to call kikkerbilletjes 'little frog bottocks' ( which are basically the upper legs of frogs ) once or twice, in a fancy restaurant, with my parents, back when I was a kid. I believe they tasted quite nice, probably a bit like chicken ;<)

Yeah I've heard it tastes like chicken lol maybe one day when I go camping with my son we will catch and kill a frog to see how it goes.
