Today I wanted to appreciate being able to get a little side hustle time early in the year!

Hustle Starting Early

The side hustle that I've been enjoying the last several years started a little early this year!

I've been enjoying a little side hustle the last few years. It's a company that I do contract work for and there have been two of them that I've worked for over the last 10 years or so, but one of the things that is a little challenging about it is that it's very seasonal. This year for some reason though, the season has started a lot earlier than before!

With the area that we live in and it having a real winter season, where we get a decent amount of snow, this contract work usually doesn't start for various reasons until AFTER the threat of snow is eliminated. That's not always the case of course, but that's usually the case in my 10 years of experience doing it. I've had times where I'm scheduled to work in the winter and it ends up getting cancelled because we get a foot of snow. Good in some ways, but bad in others because I could always use the extra money!

This year though, for some reason, BOTH companies contacted me to do some work in the time of the year where it's usually been completely empty. That was cool!

I certainly jumped at the opportunity for the money, as it's important especially as things get more expensive, to be able to earn some extra cash and help get a little bit of bills paid some extra towards. That's certainly a good motivating factor of it all but thankfully one of the other things about it is that I actually really enjoy the work, as it is one of my older passions. The passion just doesn't pay ALL of the bills, so I had to move onto bigger and better things in that regard.

One of the other things that is also interesting and a little funny, is that being someone who works from home all the time, I also enjoy this as an opportunity to get into the physical world and interact with people in the same room as me! I know that may sound weird and I absolutely love my ability to work from home.. but it's also important that we recognize that we are a highly social species. Being social over the internet in work things is good and helps show how technology is advancing quite a bit but it's not the same as being in the same space with someone. You have to be a lot more honest than you could be over a computer where you likely aren't on video calls.

In a time where we are all working long hours and spending most of our time at a computer, it's good to get in the physical world and do physical tasks with people so that we can maintain that bond. It's not always possible of course, but for me, having the opportunity to do that and get paid a little extra money is incredibly beneficial and certainly one of the reasons that I jump at the opportunities to do this type of thing whenever I can.
