Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to share a few photos from a blueberry trip the little man and I took recently!

Late Season Blueberries

Blueberries are by far one of the little mans favorite foods. It's a good thing too because holy shit those things are unbelievably healthy!

The little man has been eating blueberries since he was an infant, among avocado it was one of the first solid things that he ate and damn was he OBSESSED with them hahaha. He would house bowls of them! This has translated into many years of us going blueberry picking whenever we can, because we have to freeze many dozens of pounds of blueberries in the freezer to satisfy the little dude throughout the autumn and winter seasons! It's a really good problem to have, I think :D.

We love one of the farms gives you a nifty little bucket when you are going blueberry picking! Really awesome stuff.

The farms near us have quite a variety of blueberries. Apparently there are about 45 different species of blueberry which is crazy! I had no idea, but the types of blueberries I personally prefer at the ones that are a little tart in the beginning, and give you a really small hint of sweetness at the end. Those are the best ones!

We got lucky because one of the farms that we go to for other things, has these GIGANTIC blueberry trees. They aren't simply little shrubs, these things are full on fucking trees hahaha. They have so many blueberries and have been growing for so long that an adult man can stand up and just harvest the blueberries without needing to bend over. It's really an awesome thing, because it's easier on me with the various sports tender things that I've got going on after so many years.

There are also probably billions of the berries. That may sound like an exaggeration but it's definitely not! There are thousands of the trees, and each of the trees has thousands of the berries on them at one time. If I get to talk to one of the farmers again, which we actually randomly happened to this time, I want to ask him how many blueberry trees he's got.

One of the questions that I get a lot of the times in the fruit picking posts that I share is "how do people not steal from them?" and it's sad that it is a question asked, but that's the world we live in today.

It is the honor system, and it's thankfully still alive and well in the world we live in. You are free to pick as many berries as you want, and when you are done you bring your buckets, boxes and whatever else up to the farm stand and they weigh them and then bill you according to how many pounds you've picked. You are more than welcome to eat some blueberries when you are out there, because they know there is no way to stop people from doing that while also having a functioning farm stand, so it's a good balance.

Yes there are definitely people who take the berries to their car and just drive off but that's not the culture around here. When you are in the farm country, you respect the MOST important people in the area: the farmers! Without farmers, the country and entire world population would starve. Governments are sort-of important, but farmers are the MOST important job in the entire world, and that is no bullshit! People in these areas respect the hell out the farmers, and it's how we all should act in our day-to-day lives.

In this outing, we picked about 5 pounds of blueberries but the little man likely ate about a pound himself, and I ate a half a pound to a pound. So we probably picked 7 pounds of the little nuggets! It was really a wonderful time, and we have one more day left that we are going to try and pick before the season is truly over.

How great to witness blueberry picing in that little farm.

I agree, for sure a lot will eat blueberries during picking time but still grateful that they will treasure farmers and weighed what they picked and paid bills. Have a great picking day!

Thanks yeah it's one of our favorite activities! There's lots of different opportunities to pick and this is one of the later ones. The last ones are apples then pumpkins!

No fresh fruits mate..

Probably why the fruit picking gig still disorients me😂😂😂

I know the amount I'll eat if I ever come across apples

Apple picking starts in a few weeks :D check back then! Apple picking is one of my favorites for sure!

It's a different culture for sure but it's a really good one at the end of the day! We need to make this a reality in many other parts of the world!

little man must have bene happy picking so many of them, they taste so much better when one picks them :)

Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)
Have a great day :)

Yeah he loves the things we go picking for especially blueberries!

I'm glad you are feeling better man! Hopefully no more surgeries!

I love blueberry picking. I need to get to one of the local farms we have near where I live. It was always a good time going as a kid and my wife has never been, so I think she would enjoy the experience.

Yeah you should go! It's the end of blueberry season at this point where I am and I think where you are west of me but next year! Apple season is coming up now though :D

Yes, apple season is right around the corner.

I’ve never had the experience of picking fruits and eating blueberries too
I’m missing a lot😅😅

It's a great time for sure! Hopefully you get to do it one day.

I'll say it's a great balance, respect for the farmers is important just as much as healthy food is needed to keep the body functioning properly. I seldom come across fresh blue berries, it's mostly the ones on the supermarket shelf that I cross paths with :)

Fresh fruit is the best! I know a fair bit of people don't seem to know that food comes from farms.. it's strange haha but farms are critical for society!

Wonderful photos, and thank you for all of the useful information! I had no idea there were so many different types of blueberries as we, but you're definitely right: the best ones are the tart ones 😚👌

Happy to hear that you and your son had a great time! 👍 Thank you for sharing, enjoy your week

Yeah it was a real mind blower to hear there were so many kinds of blueberries haha. The tart ones are the best!
