Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to go back to some summery black and white photos!

Watery Monochrome Monday

Black and white photography is certainly one of my enjoyable parts of the week.

I love getting some of the photos that I've taken and flipping them into black and white. It sometimes doesn't work out, but a lot of the times it ends up something at least interesting. I like how a black and white photo brings forth a sense of reflection and deep thought instead of other things. We definitely need to have some reflection and deep thought in our weeks, even if it's not necessarily completely related to something specific like the actual water in a photograph.

I rather enjoy looking at these photos as well because it gives me a little bit of time to remember the specific event in which happened. For example, this photo below of the waterfall. We had gone to this lake for the first time and were exploring around it. There were all kinds of areas nearby that we could check out but my son wanted to do a little fishing. We looked at the map and found where the lake emptied out into the rivers that flow downstream and eventually hitting other rivers etc. We really enjoyed the way this area looked but wouldn't have found it otherwise if you are searching for something to do online.

I think that's one of my favorite parts about the photos and the black and white. I am able to reflect a bit on what was going on at the time, but also some of the deeper things that are going on in my mind. I enjoy thinking about how it's been a few years, and the vast changes that I've seen in my son since we went to this waterfall here. Really remarkable stuff!

The black and white versions of photos also elicit a different sense of appreciation for the scenery. I certainly love a fully colorful picture but you tend to lose some of the elements. For example, the interesting different shades of darkness in the rocks are more noticeable here. I remember this photo because it was a tiny river next to a grocery store we stopped at when we were heading to a different lake for a few days of vacation. The rocks were incredibly black compared to normal rocks and I think it is related to something in the ground like extra minerals or something but it was markedly different than other places we've been.

I have been also exploring different ways to adjust the black and white algorithms I've got on my computer. I have a few that I can choose from, but I am exploring different parts of the GIMP application to try and get myself familiar with other ways. I think it's certainly cool how some of the different algorithms highlight different parts of the picture to really draw your eye towards it. Some of them elicit deeper dark colors while others are more for getting things in different shades of gray. I don't know 100% of the technical elements behind it all, but it is quite interesting when I play with them!

The b&w photos all evoke a sense of nostalgic reflection, like a longing for a desirable past. The scenery around the lake where your son wanted a little fishing adventure also looks great, I mean it's a different feel looking at b&w photos than the colored ones. Thanks for sharing.

Nice pictures and solid posts brotha, keep up the work, keep rockin!

The image display in black and white is quite beautiful and very interesting.

Such places are my favorite and I also wish to spend most of my life in such places.
