Many thought Eric Ten Haag was the right choice and
Tonight we heard the news Eric Ten Haag was sacked by Manchester United which did not change much as I was posting this post tonight anyway. It was going to happen today or next week Monday and there was no escaping what he had created.
Since Alex Fergusson left his role as Manchester United manager n 2013 including all the interim managers there has now been 11 which is averaging out at 1 per year. The biggest mistake the club has made is not having the right candidate in place and Fergusson should have remained in charge until this was done correctly. Klopp left Liverpool and was instrumental in making sure the team was in good hands with the next manager.
I think the biggest surprise was why did they maintain with him so long allowing him to spend so much money whilst doing a sub standard job for the club. Ten Haag was given more time than most even though his stats never backed up the words he spewed after every defeat. I think he will be remembered more for what he said than what his team did on the pitch. His 2 trophies could only save him for so long.
The big problem for Manchester United now is we are nearly 10 games into the season and whoever comes in now will be judged on the teams performance and results. I would highly think that in order to land the right manager it will have to wait until the end of this season making sure whoever they get that it is not out of desperation.
You often wonder why teams wait until it is too late and the damage has already been done before making the right decisions. Over the weekend we saw Red Bull Formula One fail again miserably at the Mexican Grand Prix which has seen them slump into third spot on the constructors title.
Sergio Perez the number two driver at the team is meant to back up Verstappen and together add a decent haul of points each race weekend.
Back in 2022 Perez was performing how a number 2 driver should finishing 3rd in the title race. In 2023 Perez managed to score less points even though there were more races. The writing was already on the wall and he should have been replaced before this season started and now they are going to lose the title which they should of been comfortable favorites to win.
When the teams hit a crisis moment it is always too late and some teams get the timings right whilst the majority wait until it is too late to turn things around. Then it has already cost you revenue and it will cost you even more to fix the problem.
Building a brand takes years and the same apples to a team so anyone who is given an opportunity needs to start performing at some time or a change needs to happen again. Those in charge need to be decisive on their decision making and this is where most fail.
