“See, the thing is, some people have real tall souls, and other people have real tall brains like an old school computer-- them real tall ones from like 100 years ago and stuff. I can't do any of all that, but I just want to make sure both of you are happy and safe.”
Seven-year-old Amanda Ludlow was just beaming at her two best friends: her cousin-turned-adopted-sister eight-year-old Edwina Ludlow, and eight-year-old Gracie Trent from next door, who instantly hugged and kissed her.
“We're both fine!” they said, and got hugged and kissed back.
Six-year-old Grayson and five-year-old Lil' Robert Ludlow came and brought the girls flowers.
“And now you get to be more beautiful, too,” Grayson said.
“We got you red ones, because, see, you should have the best, and welcome back, Gracie!” Lil Robert said, “because I don't have a real tall brain but I do have a real tall soul, so after we went and took care of the people bothering Eddie, we were going to come to jailbreak for you, but, see, grown folks actually took care of stuff, and then it was dinnertime, and then –.”
Gracie and Edwina just wrapped their arms around Lil' Robert.
“It's all good!” they said, and hugged and kissed him.
“OK, because, see, I just needed to know both of you were OK, because, see, I love you,” he said.
All five children just did a huge group hug, and then sat down for a chat.
“So, we don't have an old school computer, but I bet if we stacked our brains up, that would be a tall stack,” Gracie said. “I was thinking that maybe we need an emergency system for stupid phone calls.”
“OK,” the other four children said.
“I was thinking how my Pop-Pop hates writing checks for water damage while I was grounded, but then I had a better idea: just because people call who are stupid, we're not stupid unless we get with them, so, we remind ourselves of how smart we are and hang up.”
“You know, it's so crazy it just might work,” Edwina said. “I mean, I feel like people need to be told off, but then, there's a lot of stupid people in the world, and I really do have better things to do.”
“It doesn't take a big blueprint,” Grayson said, “but I'm going to write this down so we can take this to our adults, too.”
“It can't really fail,” Gracie said, “because like I said, the stack of our brains is as tall as an old school type of computer – I think they are called mainframes – and we got this.”
“It's probably the safest thing to do, too,” Amanda said as she threw her arms around Edwina, “because I love you and you don't need to be getting stupid with stupid people.”
“No, because really, we're way too cute for all that,” Gracie said, “and then Rob's real tall soul really can't even be bothered.”
“I sure can't!” Lil' Robert said. “I gotta get the rest of me to catch up with my soul! I'll be as tall as an old school computer – next week, though!”
