Results of rustiness

Hi Battlemages. It’s been a long time I played Splinterlands or shared a battle, but today, I will be sharing a rather short battle I played and lost yesterday. I realized after the battle that the strategy I was outdone by was actually one I should have seen coming miles away if I was still playing at the level I was several months ago. But because I haven’t been playing for a long time, I seem to have forgotten the meaning of even some rulesets and special abilities. Anyways, without further chitchat, let’s get into it.

Ruleset

RulesetDescription
Holy ProtectionAll monsters have the Divine Shield ability

My opponent’s line up

Summoner123

My lineup and strategy

Summoner1

I’m sure you already see how my strategy was flawed just by me using one monsters. I’ll explain why I did that though, so stick with me.

Taking a peek through my opponent’s previous line ups, I realized my opponent consistently used melee monsters, and also liked using a certain bloodlust that had low health. Considering that and the fact that the mana cap for the battle was low, I thought okay … If this person likes melee monsters and bloodlusts, but the mana cap for this battle was low, he’ll likely either distribute the mana cost among many melee monsters with low health, or focus them on one powerful bloodlust. Considering that I’ve been away for a while and didn’t have any powerful cards right now myself, the summoner that made sense was…

Underboss Fabino

I chose this summoner because of the dual ability feature: poison and melee attack buff. If my opponent came with a bloodlust with low health, I would simply poison the bloodlust to kill it faster. The one minor downside to choosing this summoner (not really a downside) was that I didn’t use it to it’s full potential. I’ll explain later. Anyways, if my opponent came with many melee monsters instead, that’s where my line 1 and only monster comes into play…

Endless Ape

I chose endless up for 3 reasons

First, it is a melee attacker with a not too bad attack and speed, and would see some considerable improvement in destruction power if I chose to use my summoner’s buff ability with it.

Second, he has very high health. Regardless of whether my opponent was bringing a super powerful bloodlust or many regular melee monsters, one thing was clear: If I’ll be selecting just one monsters as my team, that monster better have good health.

Finally (and you guessed it) was the fact that Endless Ape is a scavenger. That meant that he got even healthier for every monster he’d kill. I used this so that since I don’t have any healers on my team, this be a healing compromise for me especially if my opponent came with many low health melee monsters.

My analysis was good and would’ve worked great had I accounted for the presence and nice positioning of my opponent’s first and second monster: Antoid Platoon, a monster with a shield and mute ability, and Scavo Hireling, a monster with Repair ability.

You’ll see how this combo was bad for the ability of my summoner I eventually chose to take to battle

I did not mention about the ruleset because I completely forgot about it when choosing my team for battle. It didn’t really matter much in the outcome of the battle anyways.

The Battle

Before the battle started, summoners on both sides buffed up their monster.

Round 1 & 2

Because of the short line up on both sides, there wasn’t really much action in round 1. However, at the end of round 2, my buffed-up Ape had 8 health and was ready to knock out my opponent’s monster if it got to hit it twice. I was excited and thought I won the battle at that point. But I would soon find out the flaw in my choices.

Round 3, 4, 5

This was when I realized that Scavo Hireling was Hireling at the back, and would strategically repair Antoid Platoon’s armor right before I get the chance to give it a killing strike. At this point, I realized that perhaps I should’ve used Underboss Fabino’s poison ability instead either to poison Antoid Platoon or even Scavo, because without armor repairs, it would’ve a piece of cake killing Antoid.

And so in that vicious repetitive cycle, I was down to 3 health at the end of round 4 and eventually taken down in round 5.

This loss was a result of rustiness, and I'm sure that as I go back to playing for a bit, I will return to my former glory. Thanks for making it this far into my lost battle, I'll see you in the next one.

Welcome back to the game buddy, I remember the other time I was asking you why you don't play or post about spl anymore.

I had to watch your game to see how you lost cause I thought you should have won after seeing your summoner choice. The thing is, if you have gone for the poison ability instead of the additional +2 melee you would have won.

Most times people underestimate the power of poison but boy it's powerful.

The game is changing everyday and I think the next time you go for a log break and come back you'll meet new cards which are very powerful.

PS: Have you heard about the rebellion reward cards though.

Yeah this is where I went wrong

Yeah, I've been wanting to get back to both writing and playing again, but it's always been one thing after the other for me, soI keep pushing and making excuses. I beleive this post is what breaks the excuses so I'll hopefully be more consistent than I've been for the past couple of months.

Have you heard about the rebellion reward cards though

Nope. Tell me about it, boss.

keep pushing and making excuses

Look at how you have branded procrastination😂

Nope. Tell me about it, boss.

Unlike the chaos legion reward cards, this one you can buy them with glint. You can also get them from the chests that we buy in the glint shop.

People who have it can unbind them and they can be sold on the market as well so if that is what you wanna do that is fine.

PS: Now the battle mage we used to know has been changed to engagement challenge which we can talk about these rebellion reward cards

Look at how you have branded procrastination😂

Oh baba. I made a commitment not to say it for at least one week, and instead just try to beat it.😂

Interesting changes. I noticed the battle mage change this morning when I was going through the posts of the Splinterlands account. I’ll text you on WhatsApp for details about this. Thanks for the updates, man.

If you’ll text me bring money oo
