Lemongrass tea in the morning [ENG-ESP]

This morning I made myself some citronella tea.

The first thing I did was go cut the leaves 😂, because I don't usually have them there beforehand.

It was early in the morning, around 5, which is why it looks so dark, and I took a photo of the poor plant that is already all leafless.

I cut it with scissors (I don't know how bad or good that is, but at least it doesn't scratch my leaf as much).

So, I put the water to boil in a pot. When it was boiling, as in the photo, I threw in the lemongrass leaves, previously chopped into small pieces.

Now I waited several minutes, like 20, while I did other things.

My morning routine is quite long, because I also wash dirty clothes and do some chores, so I use that time to start things that are done automatically, like for example, letting the tea brew.

And you see the big difference between drinking the tea immediately after putting the leaves into the pot of boiling water or waiting for the water to absorb the properties of the lemongrass.

The first thing, the most obvious, is the color. When you leave it for a while, the water gets a yellowish color, and the flavor becomes more intense.

I proceed to strain the tea to remove the leaves.

Of course, I add sugar, but I know I have to eliminate white sugar from my diet, and I will... eventually.

So, as you can see in the photo, this is the final color it gets.

I was reading about the subject and I was surprised to learn that citronella not only has a flavor that I really like - more than coffee - but that it has beneficial properties for health.

By the way, I really have to warn you that, when you are going to remove the leaves from the plant, be careful. Likewise when you handle them. Because the edges of the leaves are very sharp and it is quite unpleasant.

Well, tell me if you have had this tea before.

In my area it is a relatively common drink, especially if you add lemon, because it is said to help cure the flu.

Personally, I have been drinking this tea with lemon for a couple of weeks for the flu I recently had, and I think it helped my recovery, especially because of the citrus, I suppose.

Anyway, thanks for reading, and your comments are welcome.

Bueno, cuéntame si has tomado este te antes.

Hmm, I notice that you refer to your tea as citronella and lemongrass, I thought they were different, but from the same family.
I used to make lemongrass tea when I lived in the Philippines because several plants were growing in my backyard:)

Hello! I was reading and found no clear differences between the one and the other, at least in Spanish. 😅 Supposedly they are two of the many names given to that family of plants (lemongrass, lemongrass, cedron, zacate, lemon grass or citronella). Although I saw that citronella is also called another plant whose leaves are rounded. Maybe that's where the confusion comes from. Here in Venezuela we call it both ways.

And yes, I quite like the taste and we have it in our garden. ☺️

Thank you for commenting, by the way!

Hello Friend

I see that this plant is also called in my town, malojillo and I did not know that this plant was called citronella, if it was not another, now it is my confusion.

The important thing is that you know about its properties and not abuse its continuous use

And if it's great for the flu.

Thanks for sharing.

Yes, I understand that it is called by various names depending on the region.

And true, that's a good reminder not to overdo it. Nothing in excess is good.
