📸 PhotoFeed Contest - Black & White Photography #101 : The streets of San Pedro de Atacama, Chile

in #hive-15334910 days ago

This rather small town makes a great base when exploring the Atacama Desert. The first people to settle here were the Atacameños. The ruins of their ancient fort can be visited as a half day tour from San Pedro. Now it seems there are more tourists than locals in this town. There are lots of hotels, restaurants, and souvenir shops. But the temperature and the climate must be considered when visiting. It is so dry. Temperatures vary too. During the day it can reach 30 degrees. During the night it can drop below zero. Most tourists will tale a tour to El Tatio geyser field with approx. 80 active geyser’s. The area includes volcanos, high altitude lakes, ancient fort, moon- like landscape etc. There is enough to do in the area to keep you busy for weeks. The town itself has a relaxed atmosphere, a museum and church that’s worth exploring too.
