Radiology is a specialty in medicine that is highly dependent on technology. It's so important in medicine, and radiologists are often called the doctor's doctor because they help other doctors see what's wrong with their patients.
Radiology involves the use of various imaging modalities to diagnose and treat pathologies in the body.
Every 8th of November is celebrated as the International Day Of Radiology worldwide and it is celebrated to inform, educate and collaborate.
The Global Theme for the 2024 celebration was "Radiologists and Radiographers supporting patients.”
While at our centre, the University College Hospital Ibadan, the local theme was “Al(Access and innovation) in Radiology”.
The event was attended by radiologists, radiographers, radiologists-in-training, nuclear physicians, radio-oncologists and other allied specialists.

Medical students were not also left out, as they participated fully.

The highlights of the event centered around innovative means of making care accessible, efficient and affordable.
In a country like Nigeria where the average citizen is just one sickness away from poverty, making Healthcare accessible is really a big deal.
Making technology that works for an environment where basic needs like power, reliable internet, consumables etc are not readily available is of utmost importance.
Asides from the educative part of celebrating the event, we also had a lot of activities such as the launch of an AI-based x-ray machine, sip and paint and lots of music.
Here are more pictures from the event:
