The Sister Boniface Mysteries: a nun detective TV Show (my review)

Hello friends!

We have watched another TV show because we like them and this time I have discovered a nice one. So I want to share here my review and explaining a little but what this TV show is about, maybe it could be interesting for you... Hope you like it!

It's a TV show called The Sister Boniface Mysteries And as you can see, it is about a nun, but it is not a religious series. Surprisingly, it is a series about murder investigation, crime and mystery, where a nun works as a forensic collaborator for the police of a small English town where nothing is supposed to happen, but there are many crimes in its episodes.

What is this about?

It is precisely about a detective and forensic nun, who in addition to her religious vocation, also has curiosity and a great interest and talent for criminology and chemistry, being a magnificent forensic scientist that in the sixties was not abundant, and is really useful for the small police department of Great Slaughter, the English town where the series takes place.

The series begins with a striking image, the nun on her motorcycle with a sidecar, typical of the 60s in which the entire plot is set. A sign of modernity that is not at odds with the spiritual side that led her to become a nun, but she also enjoys researching and analyzing evidence in her laboratory.

Sister Boniface's cheerful and innocent personality is striking. Despite everything, she is highly intelligent and doesn't miss a single detail thanks to her intelligence and observation. In this way, she solves the murders that occur in the town, where popular events, recordings of television programs of the time, concerts, etc. are usually held, and at these times the events occur that the small police team, with the help of the nun, always end up solving in a brilliant and surprising way.

The characters

In the village there is a police station and some agents who are the ones who really investigate, although they always end up needing the help of Sister Boniface. In the end they work together as a team and solve the mysteries.

The main agent is detective Sam Gillespie, then another agent arrives from the Caribbean who will end up winning everyone's hearts, Felix Livingstone (he thought he was assigned to Scotland Yard but ended up in this town), and the one who has won him over is the sweet agent Peggy Button. In addition there is a curious and decisive journalist always in the middle of the investigations, and sometimes, she also collaborates in a useful way, Ruth Penny, who, well, sometimes gets on badly (or well) with the detective... And there are other some few secondary characters in the town too.

They make a great team despite appearances and the unconventionality of their actions, but they all contribute their talents and in the end they solve the murders, after investigating, interviewing, analyzing and thinking about the evidence. Everything comes to light and the culprit is found.

I would like to mention again the exceptional role of actress Lorna Watson who plays Sister Boniface, because she brings a different personality, sweet but intriguing, warm but relentless, and above all, endearing and intelligent at the same time.

Anything else to comment? Atmosphere

I particularly like the atmosphere, it's about an English town in the 60s where there are endearing and unique inhabitants, with curious personalities. In addition, the series is innocent despite dealing with crimes, because the bloody part is not shown, everything is shown with a subtle and sweet touch, a little naive even.

The main characters also have good values, and in the end everything ends well, there is no excessive drama, but there is, however, a certain humor, especially because of all those secondary characters that appear. It is a series that can actually be watched as a family for all these reasons, there is no need for there to be hard plots and somewhat gruesome scenes to enjoy an intriguing investigation, simply to see the characters go through their paces and think with them about who could be the culprit.

Everything is innocent, cheerful, and with a friendly atmosphere, just a few cases that arouse our curiosity, and we accompany the police and Sister Boniface to solve the mysteries.

I have already watched 29 episodes, in three available seasons. And this is totally watchable! Hope a new season soon!

Interesting plot. I guess it shows religious positions such as a nun have interests and compassions outside religion. I once new a priest who liked to gamble at the casino, jaja. So it's good the series shows the other sides of this particular Nun's life.
