What to do about VYB

I recently found staked tokens in my wallet worth $100. It increased the value of my Leodex wallet and I have been wondering for a while what it was all about.

I usually do all my research work around 4 am because of how busy my day can become or at least if I'm going to do research work at night I have to sleep first.

Today I used the Peakd search and I have to say it has improved from the earlier times when it gave me nothing.

I have read 2 posts so far about how VYB started and apparently it is supposed to do away with some corruption that has been going on in POB.

I also found that VYB is short for Verify You Brain, or is it Vybrainium? can't say for sure.

I gather that VYB will be a lot like proof of brain without the circle jerking that goes on in POB and all the downvoting too.

Me on POB

I have never been on the bad end of any downvoting going on there. The thought of a place where people could get better appreciated for their posts...it's beautiful to me.

I have been ignored a lot on POB, I hope to try engaging in VYB and building good relationships.

Nope! There has been zero corruption on POB that I am aware of. Just some genuine disagreements over the necessity of downvotes and some downvote usage that some would consider 'abuse' and others would consider 'protecting the rewards pool'.

VYB is a Layer 2 experiment to demonstrate a way to monitor and deal with abuse that doesn't rely on (or even allow) downvotes. Eliminating DVs will (for certain) eliminate DV abuse.

However, it will no doubt encourage bad actors to be more bold in trying to milk the rewards-pool through various forms of upvote abuse. That is why there will be a zero-tolerance rule for self-voting on VYB.

We are starting out just adding warning comments to posts that self-vote with the #vyb or #verifyyourbrain tag; however, sometime in the near future, posts where the author self-votes will start being muted, and authors who continue to self-vote VYB posts will have their account(s) muted as well.

After we add the POB tags to the VYB rewards-pool smart contract, we will also allow posts to exclude VYB (by using either #no-vyb or #novyb). That way, authors who post with the #no-vyb or #novyb tag will be free to self-vote (those posts just won't earn any VYB tokens).

Other forms of unambiguous abuse (including spam posts / comments) will also be subject to mute actions (or the threat thereof) -- however, the various forms of abuse that are borderline or 'subjective' will be handled in a community-based fashion (the details of which are still being worked out).

Thanks for the insight. I don't pay attention to what goes on in POB but I do know the upvoted come in really slow so I don't bank on it for anything.

Can any post use the #vyb just like the #pob? And can I start using the tag now?

It is surprising that people have still now found this to be destructive, even on Hive the main chain.

We are starting out just adding warning comments to posts that self-vote with the #vyb or #verifyyourbrain tag; however, sometime in the near future, posts where the author self-votes will start being muted, and authors who continue to self-vote VYB posts will have their account(s) muted as well.

It is probably for the best.

Yes. However, much of that monitoring process can be automated.

There are no doubt valid reasons to self-vote a post. However, trying to manage such a subjective issue would've been extremely problematic and even more resource-intensive.

In the end, an outright prohibition on self-voting was deemed the best way to maintain the intended ethos and limit the potential for abuse.
