This week, we decided to take advantage of the last few weeks of summer by going for several walks in the Peak District in Derbyshire. The Peak District is known for its rolling hills and quaint villages.
As we walked through the fields, we were greeted by the sight of sheep grazing. Some of them lifted their heads up to watch us as we passed by.
We stumbled across an old pinfold where stray cattle and sheep would be brought to keep them safe until their owners could come and retrieve them for a small fee. It was a simple solution when communities of old were smaller and everyone knew each other, and looked out for one another, including their animals. Today, it would probably be posted on social media that someone's cow had escaped from the field!
In the autumn, the forest will be full of fungi, especially fly agarics. It's also something to look forward to when the leaves on the trees change their colours. The sun rays streaming through the trees added a bit of warmth to our walk as we made our way home.
