If am asked to pinpoint one reason why I go late to school, I for one know I can't give a valid reason as to why. At first from elementary school I taught it was my mom's fault cause sometimes she was late preparing our meal but still at that my elder brother always leave home before me which then is not mummy's fault.
I was so eager to finish my basic school and that was because I would be a bit mature so the spirit of am now a senior would engulfed in me and the late coming instantly stop not knowing I was only day dreaming. 😴
The continuous late coming did not stop rather it became worst. trust me I tried to stop the bad habit but it was just so difficult.😭 So This alone made me receive several strokes of cane from teachers. But the worst of all which I would never forget was when it was the chemistry master's turn to discipline offenders. That special Monday morning I was happily going to school and to even favor the teacher assembly ground was so scanty meaning a lot of students came late but then he was prepared for us all. After pairing us into different groups to either wash the toilets, water the garden and tidy the environment as if that was not enough we wrote our names on a sheet of paper thinking it was over not knowing what we just did was only the tip of an ice berg.
He went to the staff room, brought out a new engine belt that was when we realized hot pan cakes awaits us. From the names we've written down, one after the other he called everyone out giving us five strokes of the cane. I mean it would have been better if he was flogging us on the hand but then our backs was what he requested for, if you touch it's cancelled so we all have to endure the pain. That day in school was full of unending cries, and we all wished the school was a public one where students beats teachers after the close of school but that was not possible as it would warrant even more punishment for us.
My mom almost followed me to school the next day due to the injury I had sustained but she did not. On reaching school the following day, a good number of parents were already in the waiting room to see the principal so that made us happy. If there was one thing I know my school for then is how they punished students like goats thinking our skin were made of iron not flesh. Honestly, his actions were uncalled for as their are one in a million ways to discipline a child rather than using hard canes on them.
After graduating from highschool, my younger ones came back to inform me how a boy was flogged and it landed him in the hospital, then I realized it was only God that saved our teachers during our set that majority of us were Ajepako if not..... Only God knows sha. 🤣
Finally, today's school are really enjoying compared to us else lots of emergency would have occurred if they continued with their old ways and I believe it should continue this way in other for teachers and parents fight to be avoided.
