Remember dCity?
It has been a while since I last mentioned anything about dCity. Yes, the game isn't dead. If you haven't checked out your city in some time, you should. Chances are, your settlement had gone through a population decline.
The reason is that the calculation for the population bonus has changed. It is part of a gradual process to reduce the potency of the popularity stat from 0.7 to 0.6. As you can see, we are almost there. With scale-down, a sizable city loses quite a bit of population.
In my case, I lost several thousand residents. It's happened before during the last popularity bonus adjustment. The good news: it's not too difficult to replace those populations at current market prices.
Overall, my city is doing well. Despite the reduction of thousands of citizens, the popularity bonus still grants me an almost 400% bonus. Before these changes, it was a struggle to stave off the unemployment numbers. Now, it's more than manageable.
But, the population bonus from popularity is still over the top, in my opinion. My city has a base population of 4.7K. Popularity bumps the total to around 24K.
For smaller cities, the changes don't affect them as much. I have two other small towns with 100-300 residents, and I haven't had to do much to correct any population imbalance.
Since there was a worldwide pandemic last two years, it seems plausible even from a game perspective that many have perished. Dark, I know. But, it's something to add to the RPG elements of dCity. I might use that as a prompt in my future mayoral posts.
The popularity changes aren't all bad. It bumped me up several notches in the rankings. The rankings do affect the daily rewards you receive from the game.
So, if you haven't been paying attention, perhaps you should. The same goes for its associated Discord community. There have been new developments going on there which include giveaways. Don't be left out!
