winter came in the night

in #hive-16377213 days ago

the beginning of November had been an unusually mild and pleasant but then came the typical dark cloudy and rainy gray days with long nights.then suudenly one mornng we woke up to our first snow and the start of winter. that is a perfect time for a morning walk with a thin covering of the fresh bright clean new snow

the view of the street from in front of our house

on the way to the park i pass the statue of the pony facing the sea. it's popular with the children in the summer but today it's all alone

inside the park it's all bright and cheery even though the sun is barely peering through the clouds

the sound system has been repaired so when you approach the old wooden rowboats a thunderbolt strikes. it's followed by a selection of maritime soundbites reminiscent of bygone days when the park was a naval base and the vessels were powered by sail or oars

the snow on the roof tiles makes interesting patterns. The buildings in the park are from the middle of the 1700's

the beach hardly gets any surf but what little there is marks the line between the sand and the snow

looking through the round hole in the stone gives the feeling of using an old looking glass . the island with the lighthouse about 1 km to sea looks lovely with a dusting a snow on the rocks

likewise for the diving platform and the surrounding rocks

another stone sculpture has a rough rectagular hole to view through. here looking back into the park

to the west is the memorial hall for seamen who lost their lives in the two world wars in Norwegian waters regardless of their nationality. that is where i am headed

to get there i have to climb a small hill. it can be very slippery so i am thankful for the railing to hold on to. the light through the trees is splendid

it is easy to make out the pyramid through the bare trees

the area around the memorial is grass but this stuck out nicely with the seasonal white background

from the pyramid there's a great view of the island and the lighthouse. it's an idyllic spot. since it is all automated the lightkeepers housing is available for rustic overnight accommodations. maybe best in the summer though. it's cold so i make my way back down

past an undetonated mine recovered offshore after one of the wars

back through the park with the historic houses

out of the park and past the docks where commercial fishing boats deliver their catch everywhere looks so enchanting with a light dusting of snow. there's no doubt that winter is full of beauty, especially early on.

in seaside towns in Norway most of the houses close to the sea are painted white
other colors are used for trim and details
