Poor, confused mammillarias

mammillaria plumosa 2024 5.jpg

It is almost December. Cacti should go to sleep by now, but they don't, because it is a bit too warm for them. And so today, when I was sipping my morning coffee, I spotted something pink on one of my mammillarias.

WTH?

Its a flower!
In almost December!

I never managed to find it's name, so I call it The one with dark tips.I have it for a few years already, and it is growing slowly but nicely. It looks like this is the round type instead of growing up. Beautiful white cactus!

And just look at those dark tips :)
Even if it doesn't bloom, it is one of my fav mammillarias (and I do realize I say that about most cacti, but this one really is one of my fav!).

Another bud popping. And I think there are a few more hiding in the fluff.
Ideally, it would grow flowers all around and open them all at once, creating a nice wreath. But she is not supposed to bloom now.. so that's ok.

Here she is. It is growing in a 6 cm pot right now and will stay there for at least another year.

But that's not all. Oh no.
Here is another lost soul. This is one of a newer cacti I got this year and was bragging about in this post.

The pot I got had 5 of them, and this is the biggest of them all. The remaining 4 show no sign of flowers.

I was hoping to see pink flowers as they would look a lot nicer against the white spines. Maybe the other 4 will surprise me (if they don't die by then).

Mammillaria plumosa is her name and I am still amazed by the spies. So beautiful, soft, and bouncy. Seriously :D

Both confused ladies:

And as a bonus, a brand new roomie. My local Lidl really surprises me sometimes with pearls like that.

I bought it about a month ago, repoted it, and slowly got it used to the balcony climate. It is ok for now, and I hope to see flowers in spiring. Then I will write more about it.
But just have a look.

Ladies and gents, this is Tephrocactus articulatus papyracanthus

ah man... for a second i thought that library of cacti was all hyperlinked to individual posts. hint hint nudge nudge

Because they are :D
And they open in peakd, but for some reason do not open on hive.blog?

wait... am i stupid?!
no, they actually do not open on hive.blog.

i mean... peakd is superior anyway... but I still somehowprefer seeing posts on the "native" platform.

😂

But they should open in hive.blog too! I have no idea why they dont.... they used to...
And I browse blogs on hive.blog too, so I dont know what whichcraft it is.

the witchcraft of broken frontend code maybe... 🤷

Isn't that cute? It's such a cute little colorful flower, it's cute.

How odd! My conos are also doing weird things: going to sleep and waking up the instant it becomes cooler. The slight hairiness makes it M hahniana, I think. They are quite variable and some do have black tipped spines. Flower is correct too. That Tephrocactus is pretty but they are all invasive here the tephros have gorgeous flowers!

Good morning dear friend @ewkaw
I admire the great work you do with your cactus plants, they are always giving you beautiful flowers.
Beautiful shots, I appreciate you sharing them with us
Have a lovely day

You know Mammillaria plumosa is a name I love 😂. And I wish all confusions were like that!

😍

Hello, dear manager, please unmute me and return me to the black and white community

Nice your photos of those tiny flowers emerging between those also beautiful thorns @ewkaw friend... These are lovely species... It seems to me that the weather has been strange in many parts, here we have had excessive rains and the cacti and other succulents in the gardens have been affected... But seeing this post I felt like of “pointing my camera at some of our cacti"... The dry season is about to start and they are going to start looking better here... Thanks for sharing my friend, applause for these lovely shots, have a great Sunday!
