Today was one of those perfect summer holiday days where everything just seemed to fall into place. I was lucky enough to take a stroll along Rye beach and wander up the jetty. For those who might not know, Rye is nestled inside the giant cove that Melbourne also calls home. It’s a bit of a haven, a gem along the Mornington Peninsula that feels just a little removed from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Even though it’s summer, we were treated to a pleasant 25-degree day. The kind of weather that lets you enjoy the sun without sweating buckets. Honestly, it was just right for a walk, with the sea breeze keeping things fresh.
The jetty itself was alive with activity. There were swimmers cooling off in the water, a dive school practicing their skills, and heaps of fishermen trying their luck. Everyone was out making the most of the day, and it was such a reminder of how Aussie summers bring people together outdoors.
One thing I couldn’t help but admire was how the water looked when captured in black and white. The stark contrast makes every ripple, reflection, and shadow pop. The photos I took really highlight that dramatic effect—the dark sky, the glimmering water.
If you ever get the chance, I’d highly recommend visiting Rye. It’s got that perfect balance of laid-back beach vibes and stunning views.
