Tax payment should not be one sided but there's need for a balance between all the social strata that we have. One of the ways that government generates more income is via taxes which is practicable in most countries today. On a personal ground, I don't like anything that has to do with tax payment because of the nature of the economy we have.
In my dear country Nigeria, tax payment has never been an equal thing at all. There is no balance in tax collection. Most at times the rich don't pay tax because of their influence and power hmmm this is not good to be heard. These two factors are normally used to manipulate the less privileged and those of low social status. Tax payment should be based on one's income or inflow of cash not just because you are a citizen and not rich.

To draw my input on this question Hmm I can't absolutely say yes or no. There are factors that could be considered before this kind of conclusion is done. The first input is that oh yes the rich should pay more tax than others because of their financial capacity compared to others. Many find it difficult even to eat how much more of giving money to the government? Infact there are people that are not gainfully employed by the government but go about their businesses in order to proffer a good habitable environment for their family. Why would some one that does not work neither have financial capacity pay tax??? In this case, the rich need to be considered for highest payment of taxes than common man. No matter the amount of money the rich man gives as tax won't disturb him nor scatter his business.
The rich should be tax more before of the inflow of cash and the kind of transaction they normally do. I remembered one day I stumbled on the market and I saw how the revenue officers came to collect tax from poor people and petty business people. I noticed that these officers find it difficult to disturb the rich people all because of revenue but can mount pressure on those of the lower categories. I saw them giving out receipts to those who are poor who barely eat three square meal. I started calculating how much he would make in a day then save and his children's school fees.
Another side of the coin that could be considered is for everyone to pay tax based on your total income. This should be done in form of percentage. Each worker's income should be collected and percentage be formed. The government shouldn't depend only he task alone but learn to device other means of income.
I saw the price tags on the toll gate the government build at strategic points across the states of the nation so that some revenues can be generated. When I saw, it's not based on percentage but the kind of vehicle you used. There are people that use vehicle for commercial purposes while others runs it on personal or private use.
There should be balance in tax payment for both rich and poor people on the basis of their income.
