A delicacy I miss so much: Adalu.

Here in my country (Nigeria), there are so many foods from different regions you would love, especially if you are a traveler like me. I have been to different states, and I have eaten so many local dishes from the natives of those states. One of my favorites is a food called "donkunu," and it is mostly found in the North Central region of the country. This food is made with grinded corn. Before it is cooked, there is a special kind of soup for it, which makes it special, but is it the special food I am missing? The answer is no.

I was born in the western part of the country, and I grew up eating much of our native food. There is a particular food I feel like is now going extinct because I hardly hear people talk about it or see people making such food. This food is mostly prepared for visitors back in the day, and people always look forward to its season because it has a season.

This food in my native tongue is known as "Adalu," but in english, it is called Beans and corn

This food is made with beans and fresh corn that is just gotten from the farm. The same way we add corn to our fried rice and salad, we also add corn to the beans. Many people in the village praise this food because it is a food that is seen to be classic and not something you eat every now and then because it has its own season. Adalu is not your regular food.

Growing up, my mom used to make this food for us, probably because we had a small farm where we planted all kinds of crops, but since everyone has grown and has moved to a different city, there was no one to tend to the farm, and because the land has been used for construction that is still going on.

Currently, I have never heard or seen anyone prepare this special food for me; its not a food you can buy anywhere. I have never heard a restaurant have this delicacy on their menu because it is a food that should be prepared at home and enjoyed with family.

Maybe one day, when I have my own family, my wife and I will prepare this food, and we will enjoy it with our kids.

Thanks for reading.
