Grain Run, Greenhouse, Harvests, PDC, Euros, Nest, Crawdad, Copa - Sunday

in #hive-1143082 months ago

At dawn yesterday I was on the road to town for grain. Being Sunday there was very little traffic the entire trip which made it nice and mellow.

I had the grain all loaded, all 5 barrels of it, and it sat steaming still hot from the brewing process which had me sweating like mad, at 6am. I headed for home but stopped for gas on the way.

I had just parked at the pump and as I got out of the truck the crossing arms dinged and closed for the train heading north. I finished pumping gas and by the time I was sitting at the arms waiting there was only about 10 cars left to pass. I popped out onto the highway and headed for home. The train was going about 55mph and I passed the engines before they hit the bridge over the highway.

I pulled into the farm and then backed right into the sheep pen. I shoveled the grain out into an arc behind the trailer and the sheep and alpaca all lined up at it and munched away as I slung grain under their snouts.

PDC was on and I got my posts done before heading out to the greenhouse. I had to trim and tie the cucumbers and tomatoes again as they grow super fast.

The tomatoes are trying to bush out a lot and require a lot of trimming to keep them in line. We even have peppers growing on the plants and might get a couple in a few weeks.

A pair of cucumbers were ready.

Some pretty good matches for the PDC. An almost 9 dart opener then a sudden death match. Poor Peter got beat up by Gilding.

Before it got too hot I went and got the four pounds of summer squash picked.

Then picked the 2 rows of peas in the main garden which nearly filled the basket and weighed 7.5 pounds.

Mid day the Euros came on and Spain won. HAH HAH HAH England, suck it!

I checked the cauliflowers and found they were getting hit by earwigs so I had to cut a few of them, shake the bugs out, then they got soaked in the house to ensure they are clean.

Went to check on the robin nest and found that they have at least two chicks in it. I could see the head poking up over the edge as they gasped in air in the heat of the afternoon.

I was looking for a tool and checked by the tunnel but didn't find it.

I did look into the water and see a few crawdads. One was in the middle of the pool but this one was right by the rocks.

Rather large crawdad with some pretty big claws. The bulk of the weight of them is in those 2 pincers and as it swung them around they thunked into my hand.

I set it back in the water where it sat there still instead of swimming away instantly.

The Copa was a typical South American match with insane fans and such a loud stadium.

Columbia was so damned close to penalties but turned off for a second and got beat right at the end.

Got out to soak for a while and thankfully the water was a bit cooler.

The heat won't abate and looks to increase this week which I am not looking forward to. Today I have to get work done early before the heat then will try to be inside in the afternoon hot times since there is plenty to do in the house.

Why did you hold that crab?
Weren’t you scared?

You have to grab them on their bodies so they don't pinch. We have them in the creek below our house and they are easy to handle as long as you keep fingers away from the pincer
