Was up in time to catch the finals quarter finals then the finals for the Worlds yesterday morning. It was super muggy and the house had not really cooled off much overnight despite the fans pushing air through.
It was cloudy which helped lock in the heat and the entire day became a dance with the weather.
It was 8:30am when the first cells moved over and dropped some sprinkles. It wasn't enough to cool the air off but enough to add some more humidity.
I have dug my fly gear out and was trying to workout my old reel. It was my grandfather's and I found the model is from 1972 and is a right or left handed reel. He was left handed so I had never been able to use the reel but after seeing the data that it is ambidextrous I started to tinker with it until I figure it out. All I did was flip the reel over and reseat the line guide to the other side. The drag control is on the bottom now but that is no problem, the handle is on the correct side now.
I have new line and backing coming in the next day or two to put on it. I will use my old reel and line for practice in the yard.
It was after 1pm and I popped open the doppler to see this line of weather headed right for us.
We were on the edge of the mess heading for us and the dark clouds to the west were rather ominous.
But then as seems to be the way so often the storm pushed right at us then the heat bubble of the valley must have been enough as the storm went completely around us. The doppler showed no rain over us but ALL AROUND us. We got a couple tiny sprinkles from it but that was all.
I had waited for it to hit so I could go pick peas and when I figured it was a bust I headed out and was thankful for the continued clouds as it kept the temps a lot cooler than when the sun came out. I got 3.75 pounds of peas and the snow pea row is still working on getting into full production.
The afternoon cleared up a bit for us and I got a fire going in the pit.
It was steak night again and I grilled up tenderloins for us and the rib steak for the boys.
After eating I got a bit of time at the board and managed the lineup. Not a super high score (87) but 3 triples.
So then I was watching the doppler again and saw the large thunderstorm heading due east towards us from the basin.
The wall of black to the west was quite evident through the trees.
Of course it hit right when w3e would have been going out to soak but with the lightning around we figured it best not to.
It then rained until dark and this morning we had .11" in the gauge and a pretty dense fog that has settled.
The whole week looks to be warmer so this cooler temps is nice. I have plenty to do today if it would dry out quickly. Mid day I have an appointment, I need to get more hay in the next days, have cabbage to pick and have to get the cooler up and running this morning while it is still cool so it won't have to work so hard to get it to temp, plenty of weeds to pull and cut thanks to the continued rains, then will come up with something for dinner this evening.
