PDC, Trimming Tomatoes, Chicks, Creek, Waters, Mowing, Fire, Grilling - Sunday

in #hive-114308last month

I took it a bit easy yesterday morning and watched the PDC finals over the morning and mid day. It was a warm and windy day with the winds kicking off as the sun came up. We never got any super big gusts but pretty regularly they would blow through the farm.

Mid morning I headed out to the greenhouse and spent time trimming the branching from the tomato plants. I am training them to a single stalk that I tie to the twine. It keeps them more orderly and they can put more growth to the tomatoes instead of the plant.

All dozen chicks are plugging along nicely. It's a real savior having the brooder hut that I can keep them safe in. This makes 20 chicks that the hens hatched out this year.

While @stryeyz took R to get his wrist checked out after a hard landing off the swings, (which he is just fine) I went down to check on the creek again. It has cut itself back down to the original creek level. It is about 18 inches lower than it had been with the stump blocking the flow. The tunnel is now well protected with a shallower faster flow of water going through.

The sheep needed the waters filled and I tossed a small wading pool in for the alpaca.

She plopped down on the edge of it and most of the water poured out the side. She likes to lay in the water to cool off.

After watching Chissy win the PDC I grabbed the mower and began the process once again. First was the path to the studio.

Then I cut around the outside of the main garden which had gotten quite deep.

Then along the garden and up to the studio.

The area around the pole garden is largely low growing weeds but they still got trimmed down.

Then I cut the area between the garden and the gate along the driveway. It leaves the other side of the driveway and up to the potato garden that needs to be done today.

Early evening I got a small fire going in the pit which I used to grill our dinner.

We watched the Neverending Story which the boys had not seen but I remembered it well from the countless times I watched it as a child. The blue or green screen was such shit on it and damn was Falcor hokey looking with the huge pseudo animatronics.

We got out to soak at normal time before the sun went down.

Today should be warm and a lot less windy. I have an appointment mid day and have a ton of weeding to continue on in the gardens. The mowing needs to be finished, I have to call about hay bales as the sheep finished their last one, then I have my laundry list of tasks that I can pick and choose what I feel like doing.
