Garden pests, Trips

Pests are a problem for the horticulturist, but they are part of nature and we must learn to live with them. It is a mistake to try to eliminate them completely with products that in the long term will be much more harmful to us, causing serious illnesses. In this series of articles I will talk about how to deal with these small, undesirable living beings.

Thrips are a series of very small insects that feed on the plants in our gardens. There are many types and almost every plant has its own. They mainly attack green leafy vegetables such as lettuce or chard. They are not usually a big problem in the garden as they rarely form a plague. This differentiates them from aphids, which are much more feared by all gardeners.

But Thrips can be a problem because they are a vector of plant diseases. They transmit viruses in the same way that a mosquito can transmit viruses to humans.
The transmission of these viruses can be serious in Solanaceae such as tomatoes or eggplants where they can destroy the entire crop.

They are very easy to identify when they appear as their bites leave a mark on the leaves and because they jump when we try to catch them. They are mainly fought by associating crops such as basil among our vegetables and also with blue chromatic traps. We can make these traps at home and I will explain that in another article.

Thank you very much for supporting my blog and I look forward to your comments.!
