My first money-making experience

My first money-making experience was a significant milestone in my life which if I'm richer than this, I won't forget quickly. During my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program in Nigeria, I received a monthly allowance of ₦9,797 (approximately USD25). Although the amount was modest and was tagged an allowance paid by the federal government to corps members like me then. Life was better and the economy of my dear Nation was far better than now✌️

However, I could hardly feed a single person for a month but I learned the value of financial discipline, budgeting, and the importance of managing my resources effectively. I managed my resources so well that this money would take me around the month without lending a penny from anyone and I would also send something home out of this money to my pensioner mother. To say, I was contented is an understatement 😏

How was the feeling?

I recall feeling a sense of accomplishment and independence when I received my first payment. Have I started working to be paid was in my thoughts throughout the week after I got an alert sound on my phone 🤣
This was me far away from my home, people, friends, and family. However, I soon realized that making money requires effort, dedication, and a clear understanding of one's financial priorities. I had to prioritize my expenses, including transportation, food, and personal expenses, and make adjustments to ensure that I was living within my means and that I didn't have to spend unwisely.

How was my first money-making experience?

The experience taught me valuable lessons about financial responsibility, budgeting, and the importance of saving and investing. I understood that money management is not just about earning an income, but also about being mindful of my spending habits and making informed financial decisions. I did save my money and got something tangible to do with it. I understood, spending wisely is the best if you want to grow big in life and this experience has kept me and still keeping me on track to date.

Is making money easy or hard?

Making money is not an easy thing if we want to be realistic here, there was a time I looked back and appreciated the value of taking a reasonable step towards my modest income, as it laid the foundation for my financial literacy, sensibility, and responsibility. It showed me that making money is not easy, but with the right mindset and habits, I can achieve my financial goals and build a secure financial future for myself. I have been a minimalist right my early days. I don't just spend if I have no reason 👌
