Introduction
Creating quality content is always challenging especially for newbies. This explains why many creators on Hive or elsewhere give up after some time trying, or skip days without publishing anything. Sometimes, writer's block might set in - a situation where a content writer suddenly runs out of ideas. So it is important for everyone that has been around on Hive to reveal longevity secrets for success. This subject was provided by Hive DIY community as a prompt for today 27th, June 2024.
So at the end of the article, I will explain how I generate blogging ideas and stay inspired to consistently create content on the platform. The two secrets I will highlight are:
- Niche
- Content Planning
Without much ado, lets jump right in.
Niche - be an authority
When you hear people say that someone is a "Jack of all Trades", you know what they mean, right? Most people that try to do or be too many things at the same time, always struggle to do anything great. While there could be multi-talented people around us, history shows that one is often best if they specialize on a few things or just one. In content creation, this specialization is called niche.
A niche is a topic, or area of specialization as a content creator. A content writer might decide to focus on just one niche, or a few related niches. For example, a sports writer might just focus on doing sports articles as a niche. Another writer might decide to focus on business, finance and technology articles as niches. Everyone has a choice to make on this matter. But the point is that one needs to be know for something or a few things.
There are many reasons why its important to specialize but is not the focus of this article. Basically, how do I get inspiration or generate ideas for content? So here is how having niches help me. It basically helps me to define my field of work. With so many topics and subjects floating around the internet, niches help me to narrow down my efforts towards those subjects I have chosen to explore. As a result, I do not spread my resources working on anything that catches my eye. Instead, I know what subjects should be taking my research time and other resources.
Still on niches, I would like to state here that I have a few niches I have specialized on creating content for. They are crypto, economy, AI, Finance and Technology. So each time I start reading articles to prepare content, I try to focus on these subjects. It helps for efficient use of resources. Example, I always visit blogs and read articles on the niches I have chosen. On social media, I follow top industry leaders and organizations that fall under my niches. While I also try to learn about things beyond those subjects, always spending time on my specialization subjects makes it easy for me to always find something to write on.
Very closely related to niches is another important item that helps me stay generate content ideas and stay inspired - content planning.
Content planning - a blueprint for quality and consistency
Construction engineers will tell you that a building plan is one piece of document that MUST be there for a project to succeed. Imagine a builder that just lays blocks and concrete without a building plan. The finished work would be a disaster. The same could be said of a writer that does not plan their content.
So basically, a content plan is the blueprint of your article. It lays out what articles to make, when to make them, and how to make them. In order to plan your content, it helps to have a niche. A niche settles that aspect of content planning where you ask yourself - what am I going to write about. Once the subject has been established, it will then be easy to think about how to develop the material, your goals and when to publish it. I will still like to focus on answering the question - how does content planning inspire my creations?
One huge way I get inspired through content planning is that it helps me with ideation. Generating ideas for content is perhaps one of the most time consuming tasks for all creators. So with a content map before me, I start early to think about what to write and how to develop it. Having time to select and develop ideas has been a key to my consistency. It helps me to create content with a schedule and ahead of time. I always have my articles ready ahead of the day I will publish them. The post I published today was ready by yesterday.
Besides having time to prepare, content planning makes me have a publishing schedule for my articles. I always publish one article a day. Because I have a content plan, I have created a schedule and that helps me to consistently drop articles per day without missing anything.
Conclusion
I get my ideas and inspiration from having a niche. It helps me to streamline my efforts and have a vision for my work. Content planning helps me to work with a map of what I wish to do, how I want to do it and when to do it.
