The SpendHBD project is so amazing and caught my attention instantly. When I discovered it last week, I knew that it is something that will work well in my country (Nigeria). It all came as a coincidence because just recently, I stumbled upon a study conducted by payments giant VISA which showed that Nigerians are the highest users of stablecoins across all emerging markets. HBD which is a stablecoin used for this project should certainly have its share in the enormous Nigerian crypto market.
So I have set out on this effort to take the SpendHBD project to thousands of local businesses in my city and State. Eventually, other Hive users that see how much value this project could bring to our dear country might decide to take it up in their various cities and states. HBD could be used for payments in everyday transactions and I hope to accelerate this project starting with the first workshop tomorrow, Tuesday 8/9/2024.
Laying the ground work - Listing businesses
I was recently made a trusted local guide by the project admin. I have a lot of things to get done. I had to learn a lot quickly and I mastered how to list a local business. So far in the few days am around, I have listed 5 local business as seen below:
- Be Good Shopin Place
- Real Communications
- Grand Options
- Romey Everyday Supermarket
- Cognac Haven
In preparations for this workshop tomorrow, I quickly listed the last 3 business just moments ago. I also did a transaction in each shop to demonstrate how this works. By tomorrow, up to 35 users that will attend the workshop will visit the 3 businesses and pay for a transaction using some HBD proudly sponsored by the SpendHBD team. Branding SpendHBD project
Branding is important not just for the workshop but also for effectively promoting SpendHBD. I understand the importance of branding, having organized similar activities like the first Hive meetup in my city. So in following with the requirements set out for guides that host workshops, I have made the following arrangements:
- T-shirt and Face cap: I have printed 3 T-shirts and 2 face caps with SpendHBD branding. I hope to wear it and also have another local guide @marajah wear one during the presentation. I will mass-produce more after the workshop. You can see the samples of the T-shirt and cap below:
- Flier: The SpendHDB team generously made a template for the workshop fliers. I downloaded the template and modified the contact and address for the workshop. I will be hosting this event in my IT training facility. It is just a 2-minute walk from many local businesses including the 3 shops that attendees will be visiting. I printed 80 fliers. You can see the samples below:
- Banner: I also designed a banner to decorate the workshop venue. This is important for the overall message that would be conveyed to those that will attend. Check the banner below:
Note: The typing error of spendHBD URL in the banner would be fixed ahead of workshop time.
- Workshop venue: I run an IT training facility at a very accessible location in Aba city, Nigeria. You can check out the address in Google maps. The venue can hold more than 50 persons, complete with a projector machine and standby power generating set. I have arranged seats for up to 40 persons. Rounding up preparations against tomorrow (8/9/2024)
I really hope and believe the event will run smoothly. I have a few other things to put in place. The presentation slide has been downloaded. I will also arrange other instructional material that will make it easy for the attendees to learn quickly how to make payments. Later, I will schedule an event using Meetup.
Tomorrow will mark a change in the history of shopping in Nigeria. I really hope that it goes up from there and many people get to learn about this amazing opportunity. Ultimately, Hive dollar will get a massive use-case in Nigeria, one of the largest emerging crypto markets.
