The News...

in #news11 days ago

I rarely watch the news anymore. I mean, sometimes I do for a short while when they happen to be on, but with a completely different perspective than, let's say, 10 years ago, but probably more.

Now I can see clearly all the broken old recipes they keep using thinking they are smart, most of their manipulation attempts seem focused to either captive audiences, literally brainwashed over time, or to really dumb people.

I don't want to focus on concrete examples right now but I can find them basically at any news bulletin, or whatever they call them nowadays.

I wanted to get somewhere with this, but I got a little sidetracked.

I don't particularly look for general news online either, unless something interests me. My father has told me about the terrible floods from Valencia, in Spain. I wasn't aware of that, and in a way, despite that being a tragedy for those involved directly or indirectly, is for the better, because news feed off anything negative and rarely present positive news.

The image above is not real, fortunately. But seems consistent with what a field reporter would do - going live from the middle of the water, after a flood.

My father was affected by those news even if they had no direct impact on him or us as a family. He is not at an age or health when he needs more negativity surrounding him. Compared to the past, he reduced news consumption considerably, because he saw by himself they aren't healthy.

But he watched this one. And today he described to me with details what the news was about. He caught many details, which is one way I understood the news got to him, other than what he told me.

One of the images he described was a technique news reporters use until they sicken you: to climb on top of the highest pile of garbage and go live from there.

In this case, it was a reporter climbed on top of "a mountain" of cars and dirt, to say exactly that, that below him it's a montain of cars and dirt. There were also dead people there, in many of those cars. Some maybe had already been pulled out, I don't know. But surely others weren't. So, basically, he climbed on top of corpses, in or out of their cars, to do his live session... Says a lot about what they are capable of...

I haven't seen any recording from there, so maybe my imagination works overtime based on what my father told me... I didn't tell him that, of course.

I hope those people rest in peace wherever they are, because they certainly left this world unexpectedly...

I am tired of listening to news because they on portray what they feel like not the true news

News have always been biased... But maybe they were more careful not to blatantly lie in the past.

The news media are just trying to feed off anything they can get attention from. If that means climbing on people's corpses, they will. I don't trust them at all

They are often as despicable as the politicians they are supposed to keep an eye on, but they often don't...

I know a lot of people dismiss 'MSM' news, but the fact is that it takes a lot of resources to give first-hand news reporting. A lot of bloggers and Youtubers will be giving second-hand news and/or opinion/speculation. Journalists train for years to know how to get good information. How they present it can be another matter as they may work for an organisation with a particular agenda. You have to decide what sources you trust. I don't tend to watch much TV news, but I will hear some BBC radio news and then I read a few sources online and in printed form. They all have to find ways to fund what they do and that is harder these days. Some will go for spectacle to try and get more views.

One thing we are losing a lot in the UK is local newspapers. They cannot compete with online news, but they were the ones to hold local politicians to account and also look into other local issues. They would rely on classified, house and job ads, but ebay and other outlets have taken that away from them. It is a real loss.

I hear that some people get their news from social media, but I never really did that. I got off Twitter a while ago as it was going downhill. Certain forces have actively tried to spread distrust in 'MSM', but where else can we go for news?

I used to be very well informed... through mainstream media. But misinformed at the same time, on subjects that didn't fit the agenda of the news studios. I don't miss those days at all. They did go downhill, for sure, for many years.

And some reasons for that, you described in your comment... They desperately need to find ways to keep the public's attention and to have money to keep going. And for that, they make worse and worse compromises.

They used to be called the "4th power in the state". Now I believe they are a pale reflection of what they should be or what they should do.

Do I believe Youtubers or bloggers more? No. They can screw things up by either having an interest too, or more likely, by not doing a proper research.

I guess if I really want to know something about a subject, I'll check myself from various sources, and yes, mainstream media can be one of them.

I just prefer not to expose myself to news reports every day, as I used to in a now distant past. Even if that means I might not be informed about certain events in "real time".

Constant bad news can get you down and it's not like we can do much about remote wars or even some local issues. I tend to think that politics ought to be more boring. Everything is hyped up these days .

Exactly! I like what you said that "politics ought to be more boring". It really should. But then, how will voters be "entertained"?

Politics is not meant to be entertaining. It's become too much about personality rather than substance.

I agree... It was an observation based on what appear to be their priorities, not what should be.

One thing is certain that if you check the news today, you will see things that will make you sad and scared. We can’t escape it In today’s world

That's the only thing they care about. To make people think the world is going to hell, even if it isn't. A scared population gives up its rights voluntarily... for protection against real or invented threats.
